Fished Fayette today from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm. Had wanted to stay longer but the wind beat me half to death. Fished solo today because of a last minute family emergency with my partner for the day. Water temp was mid to high 80s which is pretty cool for this time of year on Fayette. Ended up with 153 sunfish all caught on GAM (Gulp Alive Minnows). There are still fish on the beds, but they are much smaller than a month ago. I didn't measure any but would guess that 100 of the 153 were less than 7 inches, and only had a few in the 9 inch range. Kinda got spoiled on lake Notfayette last week with Doc.The fish had great coloration & got quite a few Red Ear today as well. Anyway, fish were caught in trees, reed beds, rip rap & under water structures like tank dams. I accidentally hooked a minnow while fishing one of the reed beds where I was catching fish. I think the picture says it all as to why they attack the GAM. [Linked Image]

Nice pics Steve. Thanks for the report. I can't believe you fought that wind today! I know that wasn't fun. Bet you had the lake to yourself though.

As always. Great post Vogey. woot

Side Note: Which of the two water bodies Fayette or the Lake Not Fayette has the best Gulp Alive Minnow bite. Also do different color minnows get any better results on each of the two water bodies? noidea

Alan...With the Sahara dust, the wind blowing the fresh load of coal dust in our direction & having to set my hat very tight I had a splitting headache by the end of the day. About the only places you can fish on a day this windy is east lake with south wind sheltered coves. Fortunately, this is where some of my favorite spots are. Still worth it ! Headache gone this morning.

Curtis...I would not say one is any better than the other for the GAM. They are both GREAT. It appears that the Chartreuse Shad is the best color. I say appears just because it is the main color I use, and the one I have the most confidence in, and as you know, confidence in your bait is very important. For me, the Watermelon Pearl comes in a close second.

Chuck...Totally agree

Great post Steve. Numbers are still awesome. I guess itโ€™s true that the bigguns spawn first.

That glass minnow even has some greenish/chartreuse hues in it. thumb
