Fishing with my grandson next week on Lake Travis. Wondering if the fish are schooling the way they were a couple of years ago around the flooring marinas and how early to get off the water for wake boat traffic. He’s 6 years old. Thanks for any input.

How early? They will be out by 7 or 8 many mornings! Weekends are worse. And you do know next weekend is 4th of July so there will be an extra supply of morons. The further up the river you can get the less traffic but they will be everywhere. I'd try to get back up in some creek arms. Be careful! Those wave boats throw out some giant waves and they will be coming from every direction! Easy to catch a bunch of smaller bass. Bigger ones will be out deeper but that's where the most boat traffic is. Zara spook for schoolers at first light. Baby brush hog in watermelon red. Senkos. Good luck!

If on a weekend, be off the water by noon. We get beat to death going back to the marina in a 20 ft Robalo.

Fivebites speaks the truth, though it depends on what part of Travis you want to launch at. The main lake basin? Just as Fivebites says. He and I went out one weekday and by noon I had my chiropractor on speed dial making an appointment. But if you launch somewhere near Bee Creek during on a weekday and head north, the cigarette boat/wake boat/ski boat/wave runner action isn't quite as monstrously stupid. A PITA, yes, but not "lemmeoutahere" bad. Proceed north over Pace Bend and come in where the Colorado meets the Pedernales. There's some fish in there.
