I posted this on crappie forum but I still bass fish too.
Need some help/advice. I can only gave 1 unit on bow and don't really know the difference and the best unit out of these 2 and they're the same price. I will also be adding Livescope. Thx upfront GPSMAP 1042XSV ECHOMAP ULTRA 102SV

I went all Garmin earlier this year after Tom Redington gave me the run down on it all. He said the EchoMap Ultra was designed for the bass fisherman. I don't know the differences in the 2 you listed but know he told me to go with the EchoMap Ultra units.

The 1022 or 1222 is the best way to go if you can afford one.

If you go with Echomap series:
102sv - 10" w base maps 122sv - 12" w Base maps
106sv - 10" w LakeVu maps ( ok maps, but not the best ) 126sv - 12" w :LakeVu maps
you can get the Chip with LakeVu map premium ( $199 ) and add it to the 102 or 122.
all of the units are UHD ( ultra high def ) and have the best resolution. Also, note that the GT54UHD tranducer is either sold as a bundle or sold separately in case you want the 3 in 1 transducer. the GT54 does 2D sonar, Downvu and Sideview all in one. You will want this if you want the LIvescope to show a depth range.
Garmin has cheaper models, but they won't have the resolution as the EchoMap UHD series. EchoMap 102/122/106/126 are all touch screen.
Only thing that these models don't do is screen recording.... example: if you want to record while catching a crappie, you'll have to use your GoPro or cellphone. the higher end models do screen record, but they are about $1000 more in price.
LIveScope black box and transducer will include mounts, but if you want Perspective mount - you will need to purchase this in ADDITION to the head unit and Livescope.
hope this helps..

I have a 1222 for my perspective and 1242xsv for my forward livescope up front, I prefer non touch screen. I can record on both of them thru the app. A few guys who got live after being on my boat got touch and regret it now that theyve had it a while.

I thought there was an option on the ECHOMAP ULTRA 102SV to make it key only?
