I have a 02 merc pro xb 250 on a 02 Bullet 21XD. The motor starts and idles good. When I start to take off it starts to load up and then it starts to "surge". Almost like it is running out of gas. I will finally get on plane but will only top out at about 4900-5100 rpms and it surges still. This engine should be turning about 6100 rpms but it won't get there. It is running about 65 mph gps with 3 people and full gas tank. I have had a mechanic look at it. He went in and cleaned the vapor separator and screens, put on a new fuel filter, did a compression check (115-120 on all six) and replaced the vacuum lines. Also he checked the reeds and injectors he said they were fine. I have since replaced the MAP sensor, as my mechanic said that should fix it, but it did not. I am worried that the engine will get worse if I don't figure out what the issue is. The oil reservoir under the cowling will not fill with oil and it started to beep 4 beeps about 2 minutes apart. I filled it by hand and the beeping stopped. I put a new tank in and now it will not fill either and it beeps 4 beeps every 2 minutes all the time, even after I fill it by hand. My mechanic now says he thinks the engine is trying to run in safe mode because it thinks the engine is out of oil. It is getting oil because it smokes good while it is running. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what is causing these problems? If not does anyone know of a good older merc mechanic fairly close to Brownwood? This boat should fly with the way it is set up. I just want to get it running right. Thank you for your help.

Surely they have checked the fuel pressures, fuel lines, fuel pressure regulator and coils. I would send the injectors to Brucato http://www.brucatofis.com/Services.html and get a scanner. https://www.rinda.com/marine/marinemenu.htm
