Headed north east with Doc for a 2 & 1/2 day bluegill blitz extravaganza. Fished most of the day Monday & Tues. & 1/2 day wed. Got rained on a couple times, but that did not slow us, or these guys down. We caught a grand total of 636 fish. This was a mix of native gils, coppernose, and an occasional red ear. Three small bass were also caught. We got 1 red ear, and 1 coppernose that went over 10 inches and around 40 that were 9 & 7/8 inches long. Rionator & Rhonda were also fishing this lake these 3 days and did equally as well. The spawn is still on, but a lot of the fish looked a little ragged due to some intense recent activity in the spawning bed. 635 of these fish were caught on Gulp Alives & 1 was caught on worms by our boat. Rionators boat used various baits including crickets to catch their fish. I'm pretty sure the sunfish on Fayette miss us, so will probably be heading back that way next week... [Linked Image]

I gotta say, I am now a Gulp Alive convert grin

We had a ball catching these guys. So many variations of color and pattern on these fish.

These were some of my faves --

I second that! May I also add that Vogey should be called " The Gulp Minnow Master" to go with his other AKA " The Master of Fayette"! flehan

I would make a few comments about the Gulp Minnow Master, which is a true attribution BTW. Steve’s amazing success with this bait is as much due to the WAY he used this bait as the bait itself. This was made painfully clear to me early on the first day of this trip. I started out with the Gulp Minnow using my standard down shot rig that I use with
BOC (worms). This is a 1/32 oz jig hook with a standard 1/8oz down shot weight. I have done exceedingly well with this rig with BOC. However, with the GAM (Gulp Alive Minnow) I was not successful at all. I watched Steve reel in about a half dozen perch to my none. I took the GAM off my hook and put on a worm. I immediately caught a perch.
(The only one caught on worms this trip). It was then I decided to change my rig to mimic Steve’s rigging. I took off the jig hook and put on a #6 Owner Octopus hook, which is very similar to his hook. Bang. I started catching perch immediately and never turned back for the rest of the trip. One other note on the GAM. We used various color versions of the GAM during the trip with success but found the overall winning color was Chartreuse Shad. And this by a significant margin.
