Went down to my little stump and brush pile I like to fish the other day to catch a mess of crappie for supper. Dropped the monkey milk jig down there and got nothing. Tried the other side.. nothing?? This is my catch a mess it 30 minutes spot. Dropped it on the brush pile and “thump” I set the hook. My 10’ crappie rod bent over like crazy! I knew it was no crappie! Figured a bass so the fight was on. Chased it around for a while and finally boated a 6 lb flathead. I thought well you have been eating my crappie. Lol I threw him back and went back to the spot. Dropped the jig back in .. thump. Fight was on again! I knew right away not a crappie. 4 lb channel cat. Well I threw him in the ice chest. Went back to the stump and caught one crappie. Had to move I knew the cats had pushed my crappie out of the area., moved around to a different area and got my crappie supper but caught a blue gill, and two bass and a gar. Lol

Is a 6lb flathead legal to keep, probably too short?

I think you were right in your assessment the 1st time.

I had a top that produced Crappie for weeks and weeks then nothing. Didn't fish it too much maybe once a week and I would catch 20 crappie and move on.

I saw this big white bar on SI and thought it was a Flathead. Went home set up a jug with a 2oz weight and used a big live bream for bait. 2nd night caught a Flathead that weighed 40lbs.

I was a nice day. I just usually don’t catch a lot of different species on a crappie jig like that. Bass every once in a while. And a small cat or blue gill but just a lot of different ones and sizes. Lol
Spider-Man, I bet that 40 lb cat was cleaning your brush pile out! Lol
