I do not have a TM that has any kind of GPS . That being said, is it a problem keeping the boat still enough on a brush pile while also keeping the livescope on the fish without anchoring? . I can see using ii on bridge columns since you can tie up once you find the fish. I just can't afford to step up to a better TM.

I could not do it because I don't use a foot control. One hand to fish , one to run trolling motor and one to run livescope.

I don't have 3 hands. If it were dead calm , and one was good with a foot control, It might be doable.

Personally , I would upgrade TM first , save my $$ , then add livescope.

Live viewing technology is the new frontier that's a bit more "wide open" for advancement. Yes, trolling motors do change, but typically at a slower pace. Current electronics can become obsolete at the drop of a hat.
If you buy sonar first, by the time you get the TM that won't have changed that much, most likely, the sonar will have had two new generations of features and capability not available today. You'd have a big urge to refresh your sonar yet again. In the end, you can probably be satisfied with a trolling motor that's a generation or two back more easily that you can tolerate sonar that's a generation or two older.

So, get a spot locking capable trolling motor now, and look forward to big advancements in live sonar in the future.

Thanks for the responses. I am glad I thought about it first because I was about to purchase the livescope then I got to thinking about it this morning while sitting on a Lake Tyler brushpile. My daughters were getting me a livescope for father's day. Now i will change directions.

You're assuming that you would have your LS on a pole. What you have is very doable as long as you mount the LS transducer on your TM shaft. It will take some learning to do, but when you get use to running the TM and LS in sync on your TM shaft, you'll not only be able to do what you're wanting to do, but IMO, you'll be very pleased with the results. You see, I had mine on a pole for the first two years, then I switched the LS trans to the TM shaft...and have never looked back. Hope this helps

Do you fish brush piles a lot right now? If so, what is your TM setup? As others have mentioned, whether or not you use foot control could be a big part of this puzzle.

I will give you my initial thoughts.

Trolling motor - i have upgraded and no way i would go back to a non-GPS TM.

Livescope - i have upgraded and i could go back to no livescope - it is a fun toy, but not a must have to catch fish. i stare at the screen too long sometimes.

Not an expert but I’ve often wished I had something like live scope just to eliminate cover from distance. I’m not one who needs to see my jig get bit on screen (I don’t think, never done it).
If I know crappie are there I think I can tell pretty quick if they wanna play.

IMO, you do not want to get livescope without spot lock. Because without spotlock, your eyes will be focused on bouy or maps monitor to stay on pile, you will not be able to look at live-scope monitor. If you do turn your focus to livescope monitor, then you drift off pile.

All I fish right now is Brush Piles. I have a foot control TM.

This is the best reason for me, other than picking fish off of timber. I ain't worried about seeing the fish hit, just knowing that they are down there and at what depth exactly. But then I think is it worth it just to eliminate wasted time when you are actually supposed to be out there relaxing lol. I can understand why a quide would to have one.

add some to the fathers day gift money and get the force trolling motor. you will have to have a garmin graph to use livescope and the trolling motor will also link to it.

trolling motor, graph or graphs then livescope. this is what I just did, now I can go back to eating more than one meal a day (took a while to scrimp and save but was well worth it).

I am using a 93sv plus at console/bow and a 92sv plus for livescope that is mounted on the tm shaft. just finished with it last weekend so not complete on set up yet but should be this weekend. the 92 is the exact same graph as the 93 but only comes with worldmap and no ducer, about half the cost of the 93 with everything.
livescope is gonna be a total game changer and I am primarily bass but crappie sometimes.

I don’t have LS...yet, but I do have an Xi5 TM and I honestly don’t know how I ever got along without it.

I some times wonder how we fished back in the old days with a 14" flat bottom alum boat with a 10 hp tiller steering on the transom and the trolling motor was a 3' sculling paddle while sitting on the front end of the boat. Sure was a lot of fun but too old to do it any more.

I remember fishing from a wooden flat bottom boat with my dad. That wood sure was nice for deadening sound. I remember we thought those newfangled aluminum boats were noisy when they were introduced!
