Do any of you record what you are graphing when looking for new spots? I just realized mine has this feature. I’m very new to this electronics stuff, but I am determined to get good at it. I would love to idle over as many spots as possible, and then dissect them later, adding waypoints on the promising stuff once I get to the house. Does anyone do this?

Sure. Here are some videos for doing so on Lowrance units:

This one is how to record:

This one is about replaying (watching) the recordings you've made:

I do every once in a while with my birds. I usually just screen shot instead of recording. I forget to start and stop it when i do.

I do this a lot with a program called Reefmaster (most compatible with Lowrance units)
Great program, really enjoy using it. I might enjoy reviewing sonar logs and mapping uncharted or poorly mapped lakes more than fishing.

Pictures of generated maps using Reefmaster exported to Google Earth and on an older Lowrance Elite 5 unit and a picture of a sonar log

I save my logs when I am in a new area.
I play the logs when get home to see what I missed.
Also send to genesismaps.com, a free social mapping site. In a couple days, they add my logs to their maps and I can download an updated map.
Following is a section of the map for a small lake I sent the logs in for.

Awesome stuff guys. I already am using the maps on my Garmin graphs and studying google earth before I leave. I’m talking more just about graphing in side and down scan looking for different structures, ledges, etc that are holding fish. I’m always looking as I’m graphing, but I know I could break it down more and find something that I missed while on the water.

Yes, with Reefmaster and a 32GB and under micro SD card, you can log sonar all day, then stop logging at the end of the day, placing the microSD into your computer when you get home. You can then review the entire day’s worth of sonar logs on your computer seeing all the sonar images and can drop waypoints. You can then transfer the waypoints from Reefmaster in multiple formats to be seen on Google Earth on your computer or upload them to your Lowrance unit hard drive as .usr files.
