Awesome. Always been intrigued by the hike. Read a great book called “A Walk In The Woods,” about the Appalachian trail. I wish him luck and hope he makes it the whole way. Sounds like he’s made it farther than most already! Keep us posted!

He started the hike March 29 and hit the halfway point Sunday.

He said he started on March 29th. So he did 1100 miles in the last 12 weeks.

Awesome!!! Something very rare to accomplish.
Something I dream of doing, along with Continental Divide Trail and Pacific Crest Trail.

What good stories? Bears, dangerous stream crossings, un out of food and water? Sounds pretty exciting.

Please tell me you don’t do complex math for a living.

What is his "trail name"? My co worker has hiked it the entire length, doing a segment every year. The closer to the end point in Maine is the hardest. Have to pay close attention to the trail markers or have a good GPS. He was surprised at the number of businesses that posted "No Hikers" signs. Seems of few of them come out of the woods quite smelly and broke.

as a teenager,I worked a couple of summers as a staff member at a boy scout camp near the Appalachian trail in western north Carolina and I remember how steep that trail was in places ...out of curiousity I did a little research and was surprised to learn that the average hiker only averages 10-12 miles per day....I can pretty easily walk a mile in 25 minutes on level track so that means "hiking the Appalachian trail really means "climbing up and down the trail".....and requires some real physical stamina....and willpower...and not be afraid of bears....

Mostly alone, when he first started they closed the trail because of covid but he met a retired Georgia State Trooper that was thru-hiking also and they refused to quit the trail.

somebody can probably explain how to do it far better than me but try this
right click on facebook picture...you may have to open the picture in a new window
then clck on copy...
go to pictures folder on your computer
create a folder or just right click and then click paste.picture should appear on your pictures folder
when you get ready to put picture on here, click on little picture icon on top of reply box
click on browse and it should open the picture folder on your computer..
click on the picture then click on add it to your post...

hope this help or at least don't sdcrew things up further for you...(if all else fails, find some small kid and get them to show you how to do it,which is what I have to do)

His trail name is Red Dot. So far he hasn't had any issues on the trail or in the towns but he did 6 years in the Marine Corp so i'm pretty sure that he can take care of himself.
