I’m having trouble getting any distance with my rig. Is It the 2 weights at the end that are working against each other and cutting distance?

2 weights?

I tie mine, hook, leader, dbl eye swivel, egg sinker or regular worm sinker.

if you don't throw it right the lure will outrun the sinker, lot less distance when that happens.

I never use 2 weights. I use one 1/2 to 1 oz bullet weight with about a 4' leader. It could be your rod, your reel or the way you are trying to cast it. It casts differently than most other lures, more of a swing. Usually as long as you are doing the swing right, the weight carries quite a long ways.

Cast the weights, not the hook.

Are you casting overhead like one might normally cast other lures? Because of the leader separating the weight from the bait you will do much better casting more an exaggerated side arm lob cast. Minimizes the tendency of everything to flip end over end while flying through the air and keeps everything flying straight. You can also get better distance with this “side arm lob” than a conventional overhead cast.

Try a “peg it/stopper” 5-6” above the weight. Will prevent the weight from running up the line during a cast but still functions as it should when working it back on the retrieve.

Yep. A lighter weight with something heavier like a Senko will cause the worm to outrun. PITA. You can peg your weight with a bobber stop above the weight to lessen it or go to a larger weight.

Pegging a Carolina Rig defeats one of the features of the rig. Another post was dead on when he said "cast the weight, not the hook." A Carolina Rig is best cast as a "lob" more than a "whip action" cast such as you might do with a traditional rigged lure. You do NOT forward load the rod by executing a fast backhand. You should "[censored] the catapult" for the cast with a long even speed backswing, in a side-arm movement. This will give you more room to accelerate the rig when you reverse direction. It also helps keep the weight pinned against the swivel.

The forward cast should be a long sweep, getting faster as the sweep progresses, until you release spool pressure to let 'er rip. This procedure is exactly how heavy swimbaits are cast. The premise is you don't have to "whoosh" a lot of air when you're casting what's somewhat like a miniature brick. roflmao

P. S.: If you notice your rod tip whipping back an forth rapidly at the point the lure is released, you are casting too fast. The rod should load and unload smoothly.

You gotta cast it like you would cast a surf rod.

Believe it or not I had issues after I had to do a line change on the water due to technical issues and this was on a C-Rig. The new line didn't cast as well. After I got off the water and put the normal size line back on it was back to normal "casting"distance. Both the new line and the old line was braid-just different sizes. The line that didn't cast as well was a lot bigger and older braid-

I'm not understanding the 2 weights thing either?

Crig is my most favorite thing. I dont like throwing a very light weight on it because it sort of defeats the purpose. Occasionally you have to go 1/2 ounce and that always seems like where the problems kick in. I find a little shorter leader and a different set up to help. I throw heavier rigs, 3/4 and up on a heavier set up. It I know I'm going light, lighter line and softer rod are what I prefer. Anything less than 1/2 I go chicken s rig. That's just me.

PSA....

Whip casting a 4 ft leader on a 7’6” rod, IT IS POSSIBLE TO HIT YOURSELF IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD AT MACH 2!!! It hurts too. roflmao

The bait you're throwing on a C-rig has a lot to do with casting distance. A fluke style bait will cast much further than something like a full size brush hog. I would play with different baits before I started messing with the entire setup.

Just a 1 oz weight above a swivel and bead is all you need. You should be able to cast it a mile!

Ill put it on a spinning rod if I want to use a light weight or big curly tail worm.

fx extreme rods has some mh spinning that work great for this as they are the same mh blanks that they use for a casting rod.
