Amdro mound drench in the red and white bottle that hooks up to the hose. I just checked the AMDRO website and several others and all of them say it is NOT to be used in vegetable gardens. Kattelyn, do you have a site that say's otherwise? I ask because I have been fighting them all year. Thanks.

buy a box of borax and mix it one to one with anything sticky and sweet ( honey, maple syrup, corn syrup, etc...) then spread a thin layer of that thick paste onto a thin long piece of wood. place that at a high ant traffic area and in a matter of a few days, you will destroy the entire colony. I saw a YouTube video one time and was spectical but tried it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised when it worked. eliminated several fire ant and carpenter ant colonies last year.

Pots and pots of boiling water on the mounds is the most organic remedy. Had em around my chicken coop and went to battle on them about 4 weeks ago and so far so good.

We have found the boiling water to be pretty effective around animals that might get into the poison . I also put a cup of rubbing alcohol in the pot just before I dump it on the mound to help break the surface tension and get a better soak , A little dish soap also works but I like to think the alcohol fumes gas the ones the heat doesn't kill .

Are the fire ant mounds inside your garden area? The Amdro granules can be sprinkled outside of your garden and the ants will pick them up and carry them into the mound as food. I would not think that would contaminate your garden at all.

Yes they are in the garden, we have them in the green beans and potatoes. We are using soaker hoses to that is the only place that is wet. I will try the borax and some cheap syrup. I have used it on house ants at work, don't know if it will work on fire ants but am willing to give it a try.

Something oddly satisfying about it.

They won't hurt the Beans. They will aerate the soil. Still, worth an organic fight.

Go with Fertilome - Come and Get It. It's a granular Spinosad. You can use it in vegetable gardens.
