Myself and fishing buddies Jeff and Steve fished Lake Bastrop this past Thursday 6-18-20. We launched our Kayaks from South Shore Park. We fished from 7am till 2pm and the bite was good. We caught several nice Coppernose Bluegill, Redear, two nice Channel Cats, and some nice Large Mouth Bass. We caught approx 75 fish. No small ones. We started fishing by the banks in about 4 to 6 feet of water early in the morning. We located several grass beds holding good numbers of nice Redear and bass. We moved to deeper water around 10am as it got hotter and found good numbers of Bluegill, bass, and Redear in 12 feet of water holding by the edges of Hydrilla beds. All fish were released. Rooster Tails White in color, small crank baits Chartreuse/Black, and soft plastics Chartreuse/Black, got the best results. Biggest Bluegill was just under 10". Biggest Redear was in the 10" range. Biggest bass was between 4 to 5 pounds caught by yours truly. The fight was great. Highlight of the trip were two nice Channel Cats caught by Steve. Both fish were well over 5 pounds and put up super fights on the ultralight tackle. Boat traffic was medium throughout the day. A great day of fishing Bastrop Lake. woot

Great report Laker! I fished Bastrop many years ago and it was one heck of a bass lake. Love reading these out of area reports.

Vogey. Water temp. was between 84 and 86 degrees. The power plant is in operation. As far as Tilapia I personally have not caught or seen any there. I have however heard form pretty good sources that Tilapia are in the lake.

would really like to give Bastrop a try but the thought of dragging my boat through Austin is not so appealing.. The go-aroud route is a little far. Always thought it was a really fishy lake.
