I recently purchased a used boat, a 2002 pro craft. Today, after loading the boat, I noticed a large splatter of grease had come from the hub and gotten on the tire. Does this mean my seal has gone out on the interior bearing? I found a bearing repair kit with new seals. Is this what I need to do? First time boat owner, any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bearings and seals come in all different sizes. Make sure the new parts are the right size.

Ditto on a complete rebuild after that long. For an "oh carp" on the road when travelling, I save a set of the bearings I remove (the ones that look the best), lube them up, wrap in several layers of foil, then store inside a good plastic container with a good seal. That travels with the tools and a few other key items. I haven't needed one yet, but have given one away to someone who did. Even used, they are an attractive option if a bearing blows up while traveling.

As long as it is standard size bearings and races you can buy a complete idler hub assembly pre packed for 39.00 . I keep 1 in the boat ,even if it is your brake axle you can put a idler on and plug the brake line to get you home .

On my boat when I first bought it used guy said he had replaced the bearings. After 1 year of owning boat it has easy pump in oil and old oil pumps out (which I did). Now almost to 2 years owning this boat I'm questioning if I should just pull bearings and replace them. I've never replaced bearings before but sounds like it shouldn't be to hard to do. My only concern is figuring out which ones I need before pulling the old ones out. Any help to figure out what would be needed?

If the boat/trailer manufacturer is still around, call them to ask that question. They should be able to give you part numbers. Most light trailer hub bearings are easy to get using industry standard part numbers. You'll want to inspect the races in the hubs also. If they are scored or pitted, changing just bearings doesn't do as much for longevity of the maintenance. You'd probably do best to have a trailer shop press in new races if you feel those are warranted. (You don't want to mess up new ones getting them installed.)

Pull one side off ,clean em up & they will have the part number identity stamped on them . Use the id to purchase new ones. Depending on your spindle there may be two different size of bearings. Be sure and check both front & back bearing numbers before you make a purchase.

I think it was his goal to have all the new parts before disassembly started.

I think it was his goal to have all the new parts before disassembly started. this would be best. The Boat and trailer are from 2005 nitro. maybe I should just take the trailer in and have trailer looked at and put all new one just to be on the safe side. Not sure what that would cost.
