I've had limited success casting for bait but I'm working on it. Usually they are fairly easy to find if you throw before sunrise, IMHO. My net throwing skills seem to be the limiting factor...
This weekend i'm going out later in the afternoon. I plan to launch at Little Mineral Marina. I have no idea where I'm going to find shad. Can someone give me some pointers please?

I haven't fished Texoma in several yrs but we never had problem finding shad around Cedar Mills Marina in the afternoons.

People make throwing a net to dang complicated What's your technique? Basically like the instructions you get from the nets you buy at walmart. similar to this. Works on nets up to 7ft for me.

The shad will be deeper in the afternoon. Get any extension rope and let it go down deep.

I have success finding them along the banks in the back of the coves. I never get there before sunrise, I usually get there closer to 7:30-8. I have a Panoptix and use it to find them in murky water. I use a different and easier IMHO technique. If the fish are deep, you want a taped net that will spread open vs collapsing (Betts Deep Hole) https://youtu.be/a6VYQYN1kkwhttps://youtu.be/b1XNsVjGxuYIf you are fishing tomorrow call me, I plan to fish 972 689-4245

What's a good net size for catching shad? I went out to Texoma yesterday with an old 5 foot net with 3/8 inch mesh and caught 1 nice grass carp, 4 minnows and 0 shad.

Max size legal for bait is 7’. I use all 7’ nets I use 3/8” mesh and I use different ones for different depth. Yesterday I caught bait at 8:30 am in about 3’ of water so used my Betts old salt. I saw one flicker, threw the net and nada. Next one flickered, threw again and caught about 60.

Mc Gybe: Sell that 5 foot net or discard it. Get a 7 foot net with 1 1/2 lb of weight per foot. Look for flips or small fish making visible ripples on the water. You throw a 7 foot net over those visible signs and most times you have more bait than you can use.

PKfishin thanks so much for posting this video. I’ve been struggling with throwing my 7’net since I bought it. I watched this video and perfect circle first time!! Can’t wait to get on the water to try it out.

Learin to fish: I found that video on my phone while on the lake the first time after I bought a 7 foot net. My old technique with smaller nets no longer worked so I looked it up. Sure glad it was on Youtube. It's an easy technique.
Now if someone would just post a video on how to get your net out of a tree without tearing it. My net is mostly repairs now. Still works but looks terrible.
