When the Lovin stops, the heartbreak sets in. No...not the name of a country song, but story of the 1st spawn of 2020 coming to an end on Fayette. Most of the big fish have left the beds to rest up for round 2 later in the summer. Fished from daybreak until 2 pm yesterday. Water temp 89-92 degrees & lake at full pool. Ended up with 1 catfish, 1 tilapia & around 50-60 sunfish. Lots of smaller fish still biting, and the good news is that the reed beds are starting to produce the best fish. Hopefully the bite will pick up in a few weeks. Attached is a 9 minute quick video of the adventure.

Had a greeting at the launch yesterday putting the boat in. If that was you, please identify yourself & let us know how you did. My memory sucks & I have met a lot of new friends this year...having trouble keeping everyone straight...sorry for not recognizing you..Fayette 6-16-2020

Steve you verified what I was seeing on my LiveScope this past Sunday. Smaller fish started to show up and beds were mostly empty. I guess it can't last forever. Good to hear they are moving to the reeds. Im going to start giving the small crank baits and beetle spins more time. Faster presentation and I can cover more water quicker.

As always. Loved the video Vogey! Hopefully the reeds will start producing the bigger slabs this summer.

Side Note: I would think that the fish would move to deeper water during the hottest part of day. What is your take?

Gitter...That's a really good question...The bass do move to deeper water in the hot summer months, but I think the Bluegill move in and out from the reed beds to the spawning beds back & forth. This time last year the same pattern took place where they moved to the reeds the latter part of June. I am not an expert on the subject, so maybe someone else has a take on it who fishes the lakes (like sk)...

They will follow their food. I was told the shad spawn in the reeds during the summer there. Don't know for sure.

Always get my fishing fix watching the "Master of Fayette"! Enjoyed the video and as always, thanks for sharing. thumb

Side Note: Steve. I can remember that the fish would also be holding in the timbers during the summer. Would catch em during the morning in the reeds and in the timbers during the afternoon. Is that still the pattern? hmmm

Thanks Vogey. By all of your past post I am sure to have those Bluegill patterns down pretty good!
