Can anyone help me out with a good combo? I’m wanting a solid reel that’s smooth and reliable. And a 6’6 or 7’ rod with medium power/ fast action. I primarily fish for white bass with the occasional hybrid and striper. I’m having a hard time choosing, since I don’t know which are worth the money and which ones are cheap quality. I plan on buying the rod and reel separately

I would say a good out of the box rod and reel for the budget look at Lew's Mach 2, or Lews Mach Crush. Both of them reels are good for the price and the rod will hold up very well for Hybirds and stripers. Or try and find a nice Reel used and get a med/heavy Gloomis, or St croix used. You can find some good deals on here as well as facebook.

I winded up getting a pfluegers president xt size 40 reel, and a bass pro bionic blade 7’ rod with a fast action tip. I spent a total of 180 bucks I think. I used it today at texoma and it worked great

Nice, enjoy it! The president series reels seem to offer great value and performance for the money. I also like how pflueger uses the handles that screw directly into the gear to eliminate play. You need to buy at least a $150 Ultegra to get that feature on shimano for comparison. Bass pro rods usually are very well made and also good value. That combination should serve you well for years to come.
