Rod company doesn't make the eyes! Yes, blame them for quality control, but inserts fail, especially in the tip!!! Look at the source of the components, not where it was assembled. Is your Toyota an American Made truck because it was assembled in the US???

I have three Abu Garcia Villians that are the best rods I own-cost $200 and they are very light and sensitive. And I've had custom rods built that aren't
as good. To each their own. Anybody can have a bad experience with any rod made, no matter the cost.

This is awesome! I’ve never tried their rods, but I think I feel the same way about their reels as you do about their rods. Lol.

I’m not going into bashing them or any product for that matter but i have had some similar issues with there parts department on there reels. guy on the phone basically told me I’m screwed 3 ways from Sunday and hung up on me without trying to help. All i would do is look else where and not purchase them again. IMO The best product they made was the skeet REVO.

I agree with the OP. I have been using my AG rods for 4 or 5 years now and 1 of them just had an eyelet break off. What kind of junk rods can't last more than 4 or 5 years? They've been good rods for me at good prices.

This is kind of an ignorant statement. If a company puts out a product, it should be satisfactory to it's price irrelevant to what they "mainly" manufacture. If you are spending your hard earned money on something it does not perform to again, price paid, then yes, you do have the option to be upset.

Not sure if you know this, but not all companies only manufacture, one and only one, product. It's rare to see a company these day's that can survive that way. You must branch out and grow your company.

Not saying these rod's aren't garbage, but geez, the guy is allowed to vent.

No ..... The statement wasn't ignorant. Nor am I. I've been involved in the industry for a lot of my 65 years and know how it works. I've worked as a buyer and as a seller. Both wholesale and retail.

Abu Garcia is like 90% of the industry companies in that they farm out products that they have no desire to make in house. And they likely award contracts to the lowest bidder.

They made their reputation over the years by making reels. They have never been and will likely never be a big player in the rod business.

Based upon your statement and opinion anyone and everyone who manufactures a product line should have the same quality across their entire product line.

Not many companies offer entire lineups of products that are of the same quality as their "Flag Ship" product. Sorry ... but that's just the way it is. If there's ignorance to be seen here it's because people fail to realize that a brand name doesn't necessarily mean top tier quality anymore.

I agree.

So were they dropped, stepped on, or just came that way off the rack at Wal-Mart?

Good point. Who knows how many guys have handled the rod before you buy it.

I have had good luck with their customer service but that need has been rare and the majority of my equipment is ABU based. (More reels than rods however.)

I've got one St Croix Legend and three Avids and had some old, not so great others that I'd used for years. I decided to upgrade a bunch of the older ones thinking that the new cheap rods (ABU) would probably be better than the old ones (new and better technology and all) . I bought four that cost less than $65. I've used one of these for two years , two others for about half a year, and one for about three months. I fish probably three days per week and am not particularly careful with my equipment. I've had no problems except for a fractured tip guide on one which probably was caused by me digging around for a snagged lure. Having heard all the negative hype on these rods, I haven't swung any fish over 3 lbs with them (I always have a net handy). So far I'm satisfied. They work well and feel good to fish with. We'll see how it goes but so far I'm satisfied.

I’ve come to the conclusion that more than half of you are mentally challenged.

We appreciate your valued input and look forward to you switching brands to rant on them in the near future.

Thank you all for providing valuable input and making me that much more intelligent.

Bahahaha
