I am converting one of my casting reels from a normal six foot rod to a surf rod.
Any suggestions on what length surf rod I should invest in? I was thinking somewhere between 9-12ft range.
The reel is a spin casting reel.

What do you plan on riding on the surf. A boogie board is only about 3 ft

LOL
The plan with this new setup is to just cast and let it sit for a hit. Normally would be fishing from the Jetty in this situation.

Your rod really needs to match to your reel/line weight. Most of the big 12 ft surf rods are going to be pretty heavy. Probably not well suited for a typical spincast reel with 15# line.

Ok so you are thinking more in line with a 10 ft reel?

If you want to have consistent success a 10' is minimum. When wading out a long rod helps cast the heavy weight setup when your in deep water. I use 10' but would like to have had 12'. I use a drone to take my lines out so no more wading and 20# test fills the spool quick. Im using braid this year to get some more distance out of my line.

I have a 12' and a 14'. The 12' has an abu garcia 5000 with 30# braid in it. The 14' has a penn 309 on it with 65# braid.

My Surf Rods are all sizes but a good start is 12' to 15' feet . I use Penn spinning reels for long surf rods I use 8500 ss; 9500 ssm and Spinfisher V 10500,s . I use mono line if you use braid and catch anything over 30 inches braid line will cut your hand dragging it out of the surf. You would want a Rod that is heavy so you can cast a big bait & have enough lead to hold it down.
