wouldn't it be great if a company would come out with a transducer adapter that you could change from lowrance to hummingbird or vice versa without changing all the transducers inside an outside of the boat .

That's not the issue. Even if you had a cable that converted the connection from X to Y, there's the issue of transducer element design. The two companies use different frequencies, components, crystal array configuration, etc. You wouldn't try to put a Ford piston in a Chevy, would you?

It's been available for many years with the Motor Guide and Minnkota built-in universal transducers. Just a sonar brand adapter is used for the connection. Those transducers are 83/200 kHz.
All current Humminbird units use HW CHIRP as standard for 2D sonar in the 140-240 kHz range and the piezo is Low-Q CHIRP rated.
Then there is the Imaging technology that has somewhat been common frequencies with 455 and 800 kHz. Now Humminbird has added another frequency that is 1.2 MKz and the units CHIRP all three of those frequency ranges. Raymarine has copied that as well as Garmin. Lowrance hasn't gotten on the MEGA train yet.
Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3, Helix 10 MEGA DI+ GPS G3N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

It like having to get a Dell monitor or keyboard if you have a Dell laptop. They should standardize all that, but they they wouldn't be able to charge 5x mark up. Tim

Tim Doesn't Dell have standard USB and video out ports on their laptops now? Every one I have ever tinkered with did, and those are the "standardized" interfaces you dream of. Those allow the use of any modern standard I/O devices. Am I missing something?

I meant to say that's about as stupid as having to buy a Dell monitor for a Dell laptop for it to work. PC's use standard interfaces, and I wished fish-finders are the same. But PC volumes are much much higher. Tim

As a matter of fact, yes you can put any piston, from any manufacturer, in any other manufacturer's engine. provided bore, stroke, and skirt clearances work. A piston has ZERO clue, what engine its in.
