Wife is wanting to rent a house there for a weekend so all the families can meet to swim and fish. Can anyone give some feed back on the lake concerning the fishing? Never been there and want to have some success for the grandkids. Also is there a marina that you can recommend to rent a party barge for all to go on?

Thanks Chris. Not my choice when I said Wife. I plan on looking for whites, hybrids, crappie, or cats from what I am reading online. Just wanting to get some bent rod action for the kids.

Check out the white bass forum. Read anything Dennis Christian posts. I just started fishing CCL this year. Lots of white/sand bass & catfish. You're likely to have more luck chasing those than largemouth on Cedar Creek from the little bit I have experienced.

Also expect rough busy waters if on the weekend. FYI.

Once you find a house, check with Chuck at BigCrappie.com. Best bang for your buck and guarantied fish. They will do crappie or white bass and hybrid trips on Cedar Creek.

Quite a few humps by the dam that they school up on in the evenings. Going to be insane boat traffic down there though.

There is a marina just across the 198 bridge coming out of Gun Barrel on the left-hand side. I believe they rent 'toons

There is also a lot of info in here on weekend/weekly house rentals:

https://www.cedarcreeklake.com/

Usually some info/fishing reports from a couple of guides, BigCrappie.com and Jason Barber (I have no first-hand knowledge of either one of these guides)

I not saying Athens isn’t a better bass lake but Cedar Creek has a good population of largemouth, but I will guarantee you they are correct about boat traffic on weekends.

I ususally do pretty good for bass out there in June but this year has been tougher than normal, I kinda wonder if tight concentration of recent tourneys there delayed by COVID is not to blame, the basschamps just had a massive event out there

Not tournaments... all the bass got washed up on shore and died because of the boat traffic during the spawn! nuts

The effect of not just the number of boats, but the size and destructiveness of the wakes they create, can't be overstated. As Chief Brodie once said, "You're gonna need a bigger boat."

fish from 6am to 9am. You shouldn't have an issue with the wake boats, the will still be in bed. After that, put it on the trailer.

I do not have an up to date fishing report but summer time is usually about the fishing boat docks. Cedar Creek is one of the most developed boat house covered lakes I’ve ever seen. Look at your graph & maps to find the deeper docks closest to deeper water if bass fishing. Community humps (maps again) around the dam area are the best bet for hybrids & sand bass. This is better “party barge” fishing if that’s how you are going to fish. Check the striper and sand bass section for up to date info on this. As mentioned above^^^^the pleasure boat traffic during the day can get pretty tough on us bass fishermen. Boat rentals? https://www.lonestarmarina.com/daycations/

Thanks all. Have it planned as best I can and hopefully the grandkids will smell fishy when I bring them home to their mother.
