Personally never with the exception of on my spinning rods to allow for much longer casts and increased sensitivity. I use a 5-7' leader of 17lb fluorocarbon tied to my mainline which is Berkley Nanofil 12lb using a triple surgeons knot. I like to use white colored braided on my spinning rods so that I can easily see my line, chartreuse is also a great visible color.

I usually don’t do braid, but when I do I use a leader. I find it a lot easier to tie on bait to a leader than straight to the braid and mono/fluoro is easier to cut when needed. I use just a short bit so I don’t have to deal with the knot catching on guides.

The vast majority of the time, I just go straight mono or fluoro since it’s a lot easier to deal with than braid, and mono is a lot cheaper as a bonus if I use it and it rarely gives me issues.

I love braid in cover. Use a braid leader too. I don't think I miss many fish. The G Loomis NRX helps too.

I use Braid on my pitching rod 40lb Diawa J 8. With a 20 or 25 lb fluorocarbon leader around 6’ long to start. I do this because the fluorocarbon to me has too much memory and I hate the coils but I love the feel of fishing it. I like it on the end so when I get hung in the stumps I can break off.

Interesting scenario last night-hooked a really nice fish that took me under a branch and sawed my line with a couple of head shakes and broke off. I was using braid with a flouro leader. (think it was 15 or 20lb leader) The flouro leader is what broke. So back to the original post, would I have even gotten the bite if I was using straight braid? (and maybe had a better chance at landing the fish) It was heavy cover in dingy water. Second scenario-same lake last night. My buddy flipped a worm into a tree top (straight flouro) and broke off on a nice fish trying to pull it out. I think he had 15lb Inviszx. I pitched back into the same tree with braid tied directly to my texas rig and landed a smaller fish. It was a reaction bite as worm was free falling through the branches. (so maybe the braid didn't matter as much??)

I use braid on everything but moving baits. I've tried braid on my deep diving rod with a short leader, but I think that the braid limits the distance of my casts. just more friction in the guides than either flouro or mono. I switched to just 12lb flouro, but haven't fished it much yet this year. I have used 40lb, 30lb, 20lb, 15lb. braid on various rods. The lighter braids were on my drop shot, spinning rig and I have gone back to heavier braid because of the wind knot problem with the lighter braids. I use 10lb Invisix for leader on the drop shot, alberto knot and that has been very reliable. I have tried both braid direct and braid to leader on my shakey head spinning rig and have caught fish both ways, and it was chartruse Suffix 832 20lb braid. I use 40lb braid on my Crig baitcaster, 40lb braid on my frog/jig rod. I have 2 rods with micro guides, they are Falcon Buccoo "Trapcaster" 7' MH and I use those for moving baits, mono on both. Bottom line is I really like braid, depending on what you are fishing with, the leader part is debatable. The jury is still out.

Every time I've broken off on fluoro was at the knot. That tells me it's a bad tie job. Had a couple of pros tell me the palomar, which I've tied forever, was the reason. Started switching it up and using the Eugene slip knot that I double or the Mark Zona shark knot. Haven't lost a fish since. That said, I back all my reels about half way with braid and then fluoro on top with the exception of my heavy cover rig which is straight braid.

Nope. Never seen a reason to.

Crappie sure don't mind jigs tied straight to braid, slightly improved sensitivity also. If fishing a lake that is crystal clear most of the year, might consider flouro leader, but I haven't noticed any difference in the number of strikes with or without leader
