How I did it (not pretty but doesn't have to be for me): when I realized the early Ugly Sticks were hollow - took a dowel rod, JB weld, cut the dowel to the length of the handle, gooped up the dowel rod with JB, put the handle together. While tacky, wound with cord line from my father's old "True Blue" bait caster, then used "Welder's Glue" painted on top of the cord to protect, strengthen and give the gloss look. Should handle minnow to marlin now.
