I live on Lake Granbury and follow the TPWD fishing reports. I’ve seen the complaints on other threads. Is there anything we can do to get a more accurate report? We’ve had a large fish Jill here on our lake and fishing is pretty weak. I get an email from TPWD and it’s the same report they’ve had for weeks. Heck, I’d write one myself if they’re looking for volunteers. Anything has to be better than this repeating stuff

This has been a problem since the 80's.

I have not read one in years , I just go fishing when I can and feel like it . smile

I just brought it up here because I've seen it discussed here a few times but couldn't remember the outcome. Also, I've emailed them about our fish kill and haven't heard a word back from them. I'm sure they're busy. It was great to hear about them stocking a bunch of striper fry in Granbury but that's was about a week before the fish kill so I wonder how many survived

Lake Granbury fishing
Fish are fair on lure and bait. Larger fish are being caught with hooks and line. Rods are nice too. Catfishing is slow because they are not fast.

Fishing reports will always be hit or miss as conditions change and locations can vary on most lakes.
What works for one person may not work for others.
It's always going to be vague and most of the time you just have to experiment or get the same reply of, "you should have been here yesterday!"

Just one more cast!

All you need to know about fishing reports is let the guys who won the tournament and the guys who didn't catch squat tell you what they did or didn't do. Fishing is fishing. Some days you win. Most days the fish do.

To me, the reports have gotten better than they used to be. Not perfect, but better. JMO.

Some of them are not even remotely accurate. Couple of months ago they were saying to fish certain things on Bridgeport that does not even exist out there. Then they have that catch all lure. They say spinner on 75% of the lakes but never specify spinnerbait, tail spinner etc. This week's Lake Fork report is nowhere close to accurate.

Where does TPWD even get their info from? Surely it’s not from guides or pro tournament anglers.

No....not really. They generally suck and are completely made up from a bunker in Third world country or somewhere.

They hire it out to someone that doesn’t even live in Texas. Much less ever fish.

That would explain things. I don’t trust any fishing reports unless they are submitted by local guides and fisherman. Even then, I take what they say with a grain of salt. Only way to really know what works and what doesn’t at a certain lake it’s trial and error and experience.
