I’ve been told I could have a cracked intake manifold due to my coolant leak. Anyone have an idea of what this may cost parts and labor?

Hope for a bad gasket. I had mine replaced on 2001 5.4l when only 2 years old. Never saw leak but it puddled around spark plug on number 6. Ruined plug and COP.

I thought it was a gasket that was notorious for leaking on the Triton 5.4L.

I thought it was a gasket that was notorious for leaking on the Triton 5.4L. Yep, it is. 2001 5.4s are notorious for a lot of things and none are good.

I had a 4.6 2v that had a similar issue. Coolant would pour out the manifold where it was warped and leak down in the spark plugs and cause a bad misfire. The late 90s early 00s were really bad about coolant leaks in those older ones. Thankfully, it’s a super easy job. If you are mechanically inclined at all, you can save a ton of money and do it yourself. I bought a manifold on RockAuto and replaced it in my driveway in under 2 hours. Never had another issue with it after that.
I also replaced an intake manifold on a never 4.6 3V engine (separate unrelated issue) and took about the same amount of time. It’s not that difficult to do yourself if you are mechanically inclined, but if you take it somewhere, expect an Indy shop to charge at least $300-500 labor and a couple hundred for the parts. Dealership may be closer to a grand total all said and done.
If you have a 5.4 instead of the 4.6, you can still expect roughly the same costs and roughly the same amount of work as the 4.6 intake if that is your issue.

I thought it was a gasket that was notorious for leaking on the Triton 5.4L. Yep, it is. 2001 5.4s are notorious for a lot of things and none are good. Guess I got lucky because out of the 22 trucks I've owned of every different brand the 5.4 triton has been to most reliable with the least repairs out of all of them, with dodge hemi 5.7 being the worst. My personal vechile is a Triton with 298k and still rocking along. Told my wife I would drive it into the ground, almost 20 years later she is my favorite work truck of all the ones my buisness owns. I have 6 other 5.4 and all of them just as reliable. But that is just my vast experience talking. Removing the intake is easy on this motor. It will take a good mechanic about 3-4hrs. If you are doing it yourself I would replace the injectors (or clean them), coil packs and spark plugs. You are going to be there so you may as well. Rock auto sales the oems pretty cheap. This way you are set for another 200k.

I have many friends and family members who have had 5.4s, several of them have 200-300k on them never had any issues, and several of them had the cam phasers [censored] out on them at just over 100k and some have even had intake manifold problems. Seems like it’s the luck of the draw if you get a good one or not. Overall they are solid engines, I wouldn’t be afraid to own one but I think the 4.6 is the better motor for longevity.
I second the notion for replacing the injector seals and spark plugs and cleaning the injectors while in there. They are cheap and gotta take them out anyways. The coil packs are debatable though. Depends on the miles and if they had any misfire problems before or not. It gets quite expensive replacing all 8 packs at one time. Think they are $50-75 each depending if you get aftermarket or OE. Coil packs are super easy to get at if they end up going bad later so I wouldn’t even worry about them if they aren’t bad.

I had an 02 model. Same issue. Had it fixed but was under warranty. It was like a 600$ repair then. That was years ago. I never had any more issues as long as I owned the truck though.
