Chris, that was a sneaky/tricky mepps question by Mepps Master, I don't think you answered his question.

I don't like messing with live bait. I guess the real question is, if I use artificials (Mepps), where Chris caught his bigger stripers with live bait, will my problem be not catching any stripers, catching only the smaller stripers or keeping white bass off the lure so a striper can strike it.

Difficult to say with 100% certainty. If you are wanting to target nice sized striper on lake Whitney with your Mepps technique I would do it in August when they are suspended and looking for that horizontal or slow flutter technique. IMO that's when the Mepps technique really shines above others. A large flutter spoon is a great technique as well. Awesome Bite! I think you already know from experience that in mixed schools it will be difficult to keep the small fish off the Mepps long enough to catch the big ones. Do they make a larger Mepps? Maybe 1.5 times the size of the #4 One thing is certain, if you don't try you won't know. If you decide to try then take SeaPro-Todd and I with you!!

Iām no professional, but I have tried something similar to this on Whitney lately. Found lots of schools with mixed sized fish. Traditionally I use slabs or some kind of blade bait or Little George if sandies are mixed in. Have caught tons of sandies and stripers mixed in that were in the 15 inch range. Like probably 200 fish every time we go. Which is great for my 7yr old son. Last time I went I used only a 5in flutter spoon. He out caught me probably 4 to 1 in number of fish but I caught more than my limit of 3-4 pound stripers. Nothing like the size Chris has posted here, but definitely better size than Iām seeing with the slabs.
Looks like I need to get a set up and learn how to live bait fish....

First find the good strippers then us 3 can drop bait, mepps, ARig, and maybe another scientist throwing slab!
