We rented a block of cabins at Uncle Gus Marina on lake Whitney for a family reunion for an extended weekend. Lake Whitney has always been my favorite lake to fish in Texas and once again she didn't disappoint! It was a blast putting my mom's side of the family on big fish with my brother Michael. LLA invaded Lake Whitney and the fish never had a chance! LOL
The quality and numbers were exceptional with the largest weighing in at 11.5#s

Tips on Whitney:

1. Bait is located in back creek channels early morning before daylight.
2. Gizzards are loaded in a few muddier creek arms mid day
3. Big striper are holding on main river channel ledges. Drop larger baits to keep the little ones off.

That is awesome. Use a guide or just know what you are doing?

Chris, nice haul and great family gathering! Question: Since you mentioned shad and gizzard shad, were all the stripers caught on live bait? Do you think you could catch any on artificials and, if so, which ones and would you fish the same spots?

No doubt the quality of fish on Whitney is exceptional nowadays. Great to see that lake back on track the last couple years!

We were out way earlier than most guides. Had our limits cleaned by 8:00 each morning just in time for breakfast!

However, there are some great striper guides on Whitney.

Nice job Chris. Really nice job!!! We were out last Saturday and full moon, blue bird skies, calm water and oppressive heat had the stripers practicing fisherman distancing. Caught a couple dink stripers and the obligatory catfish but that was it. Guides appeared to be struggling as well. Sounds like y'all had a great family reunion.

Awesome job. I have never fished Whitney but want too just for the scenery. It’s such a pretty lake. I noticed you have safe floor in your boat. How do you like it? I have been wanting to add it to my boat but there is no installers close to me

It is a beautiful lake. I am extremely pleased with our safe floor install. I highly recommend it.

Dennis,

On day one I caught all my fish on artificial lures (swim baits and slabs). After that we switched to bait because most of our West Texas family doesn't fish much.

Can it be done with lures? Yes, but live bait is much more consistent and yields much larger fish this time of year in my experience. Are there exceptions? Always

In general, Live bait is king May-July
