Drove a full tank of gas out of my pickup at night while my Power Pole was dragging on the highway. Stopped to get fuel again walked to the back of my boat and saw that I now had only half are less of a Power Pole. Didn’t own a strap for the Power Pole therefore I was not useing a strap and this is what happened. Contacted Power Pole and explained what happened. Power Pole had me send them photos of the damage. They sent me the replacement parts and I reassembled the unit. What they sent me was ever single part of the Power Pole that you see sticking up behind your boat. I had a pile of boxes on the door step when I got home. Ever bolt nut and washer plus the big hard parts in these boxes. My son and I put it all together yesterday and bolted it to the boat. Thank you Power Pole for covering the damage. I now own a strap which holds the unit together not allowing it to go down. Cloth covers cost more than I want to spend so I got a strap. This boat has gone thousands of miles without this happening but it has happened now. Hope this information helps you from having the same problem. It was still bolted to the boat. It relaxed lowering itself to the pavement. These guys at power pole have the best service i have ever know of. They are the best people to work with you will ever come in contact with.

Power Pole has great customer service. Yes they do! I bought the “other” Blade last week to go with the one I bought last year. They changed the cosmetics and made an upgrade here and there. I called to BUY the new parts to update last years pole. They said no. They are on the way. They shipped me what I needed to make them match. Free of charge. More than I ever expected.

Power Pole does recommend having switchable power for their products - and to de-energize when not in use. I installed mine with a mini marine power cutoff switch. It feeds power (with appropriate fuses) to the Power Poles AND the hydraulic jackplate. I don't want either one deciding to do something while it's on the trailer.
Some common causes of inadvertent Power Pole activation: 1) remote in pocket gets a button pushed. 2) remote in a storage compartment gets a button pushed when contents shift during transport on the trailer. 3) hydraulic cylinder seal leaking, allowing pressure bypass, allowing the pole to slowly sag to the ground.
If you trailer very much, covers or straps are a good investment for wear reduction, not just a precaution against deployment. During transport, the joints get constant wear from wiggle/vibration, which can put significant wear on bolts and bushings. They can get rather sloppy-fitting from this wear, and cause some major component damage over time. Covers/straps snug them up so this unnecessary wear doesn't happen.

Look inside the tank and see if you notice a glob of material. That fluid that comes with your unit grows some type of snot ball which clogs up the pump and lines. If you notice what I have described you must clean the unit out along with the lines and ram. Look and let me know if you can find this glob in your tank. If so contact me and I will tell you more.

My first set of power poles. I have 2 8ft blades that are probably 3 years old. I do have a cut off switch so I turn them off when I leave the house or the lake. Wouldn't some heavy duty Velcro work? That looks like what they're selling on the Power Pole website.

Home Depot has a heavy duty velcro glove strap with a clip as well. They are around $2.00ea and are made to secure a pair of gloves to a belt. They are bright orange. I bouggt a set and they are perfect for securing Power Poles.

I have a Perko switch on mine and only have power going to them when I am on the water. It's one of my steps when I launch or leave just like the drain plug. I also trailer with the covers on them. Keeps them from sagging if I ever lose hydraulic pressure and keeps the bugs off too. This is all how the previous owner did it and I though it was a pretty sound process.

I have relayed this story in the past but here it is again. I drove home from Bastrop, backed into my driveway, stopped and went to doing my usual clean up stuff. I went to plug in my battery charging system and I saw my PP folded over to the concrete. The top bolt had come out of bracket. I had my PP Drift Paddle on and it had "protected" the PP. The top corner of the drift paddle was gone. I don't know how long it was dragging but I never had anyone honk at me while I was on the road. I called PP and they sent me a new bolt and washer kit. Unfortunately, it has never been the same since.

I bought a used blade earlier this year, first gen I think 4 to 5 years old. Upon install I found the tank had cracks in it. I called PP to order a new tank and they sent me the tank kit and fluid, warrantied. I just wrap a black rubber bungee cord around the pole when trailering to keep it from deploying. Advice from a friend who had his spike ground off going down the highway when a hose burst. I didnt use the green fluid because I dont want the algae or whatever grows in the tank that makes the slimy stuff.

I made straps out of some belts that I had from some shorts I bought. Just shortened them to fit and burnt the ends so they wouldnt fray. Never did like those stupid belts but they make great straps..
