How about it guys? What is the best smallmouth lake within an hour (or close to that) of the DFW area?
You can talk either numbers or quality.

Might get different opinions, but I wouldn't say anything within that distance is what you'd call "good". As for DFW lakes, Grapevine is about the only place that has them and they are few and far between - but they're in there for sure. I've heard Bridgeport has them...but I personally cannot confirm. And Whitney and Belton down in Killeen has them too - but you might struggle trying to find them if you are going after smallies specifically.
My opinion, drive a little further and hit Texoma if you really want to go after them. Or you could go just a little further into Oklahoma and find them on Lake Murray and some others.

You can catch dinks at Lake Murray. Buddy caught a 4-12 about a month ago out there

Texoma is the only place around that I've seen them caught with any regularity.
I've seen pictures of some really nice ones caught on the Vine but I've never seen one there myself.
