bound to be some good stories of strange catches during a bass tourney, i.e., catfish / drum / etc...they don't show them on the TV shows, even tho i did see a drum catch yesterday...tell us some stories~~~!!!

I was bass fishing it a Trinity River oxbow lake in the spring of the year several years back. Was with a good friend and we were catching the bass good. I was throwing a Rapala crank bait when something smacked it. First the thought I was hung. It didn’t move, then it started swimming off. I thought I had snagged a gator in the back! Lol after it drug the boat about 200 yards and 10 minutes when by I seen what I had. It was a big yellow cat! Hooked right in the corner of the mouth. He put that 15lb big game to the test. He was between 40 and 50 lbs. It was awesome. Let him go to live another day! We caught two other cats that day, nothing near that big. It was an awesome day!

Man. I’ve caught it all. Usually happens on a bad day when I REALLY need one more fish. Then it happens. For about 5 seconds I think I just pulled a rabbit trick! Nope. It’s a (insert non bass species)! Usually a REALLY GOOD ONE TOO. Worst is the catfish on a plastic. I’ve even caught a 15-16lb carp on a c rig. Thought it was gonna be a DD bass. Then the jokes on me. Caught bowfin on a frog. Red fish on a frog, perch flipping, crappie(blacks and whites) on a wacky rig, sand bass, hybrids, stripers in 4 ft of water with rattle traps. Big drum on senkos. You name it, I’ve thought it was a bass just long enough to get my hopes up. Haha

The biggest thing I caught in a tournament was an umbrella that was open. It was the big kind that attaches to the seat so you can fish in the shade all day. Hooked it on a steep slope on the TN. River. It started to move immediately and rolled down the slope; then the current caught it and the fight was on. Took about 5 min. to get it in and it also had a Crank Bait attached that another fisherman lost on it. Good find; caught lots of fish on that old crank bait over the years.

Caught everything but the one that comes to mind was when I landed a brand new expensive square bill right on the back of about a 30 pound carp.
Medium action rod, 14 lbs test mono, and an angler who didn’t want to lose his bait. Took about 10 min and had every home owner in the cove thinking I hooked the lake record. So much fun though.

Last year on Bridgeport we had a very solid 30 lb. plus sack of drum flipping brush hogs. Sack of Bass was around 12 lbs...
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Fishing a BASS event on the St Johns river in Florida and I caught a flounder on a worm. I think we were about 40 miles upriver from the Atlantic. I also got to pet a manatee that came up right beside my boat while I was fishing.

(I can't remember the boater's name) but while fishing as a Co-angler in an Open on Ross Barnett back in 2013 he threw a frog back into some mixed grass/lily pads/etc and got a huge boil. So he threw back in there again and Bam got the strike and set the hook. We saw a massive swirl and both thought he had at least a DD on! After tugging and pulling over say 20 yards without almost any fight we then see its a GATOR!! Prob around 6-7' and we both looked at each other like "I ain't trying to unhook it" so we just cut the line. Not sure WHY the gator just let us pull him in but that braided line sure was strong that day lol!

In yesterday's tournament on Amon Carter, we caught 5 different species on artificial lures by 11:00am... one tiny largemouth, several crappie and sandbass, a catfish, and a gar.

Caught a rock on Lake Conroe. Not much of fight but it did have some weight to it.

Basschamps at Cedar Creek I caught a large carp inside the mouth with a swim jig. Thought I had a giant bass.

I've caught many that i thought was a DD. 20lb flathead on a rattle trap. Grennel, gar and gator on a frog. Somethind on a jig that I couldn't turn. Hooked it on bridge riprap and followed it with trolling motor under the bridge into open water and tried to horse it and it realized it was hooked and took off. Spooled my 5500. I think it was a Russian submarine. Bugs me even today. I think it was a 50+ catfish.

I caught a huge crappie on a jig at Cedar Cr many years ago. It made me think of fishing with Jimmy Houston at Chambers. He had just caught two 5 pounds and we were fishing some stuff that didn't leave me much so I put on a rapala following. I got a bite and it was a nice 1 1/2 pound crappie. Jimmie said to put him in the livewell. If I caught a few more he would have them for dinner. We didn't catch any more so we let him go at the boat ramp.
During practice day as big Sam I was idling out of a creek and a guy over to the side in a bunch of stumps started waving at me. I idled over to him and he asked if I had a camera. His rod was bent over but you could not see anything. I did not have a camera but he said watch this. He put extra umphh on the rod and in a couple minutes an estimated 220 pound gar came up to the surface. He said he'd had it on for an hour and wanted to get a pic of it.
