OK, I have decided to get some new warm weather rain gear. I am not looking for something that is packable but something that is lighter than what I have. I currently have the old Gander Mountain guide series rain gear. It's great for cold weather but to heavy for summer. What is my best option? I haven't bought new ranger in nearly 10 years.

I always pack my raingear. How would anyone be able to take it anywhere if it was not "packable"? Wear it all the time?

If you want lightweight for summer, I can't imagine anything that will fit that description that will not also be marketed as "packable". Think about it.

Gill makes a nice set, get the bibs as opposed to the pants. They ain't cheap but are very nice. If you don't wanna spend a lot of money check out the frogg togs.

Just bought a set of Frogg Toggs at Academy all packed in a bag about 7" by 9" by 3" or so. $19.95

Be careful with the Frogg Toggs. I bought several pairs and wrecked two pairs of the pants. The first I snagged on a rough spot on a dock and on the second I knelt down and stretched the crotch which totally ripped out at the seam. They are not very durable. First experience like that I've had with any brand of rain suits. These are the cheap $19.99 for a pair ones. They work fine until they disintegrate.

The cabelas makes some rain gear thats breathable. You wont sweat to death in. Runs about $70 a piece. My wife just got a Columbia jacket that looks the same as my cabelas gear. But haven't gotten to test it. My experience is you get what you pay for. So i would stay away from the cheaper frog togs ect..

I bought a nice rain jacket from Costco for like $15. its pretty light and keeps me dry also has some breathing to it. As for pants I found a nice set on clearance at academy this winter that have zippers that go up to your knees to make it easy to slip on over your pants. They dont breath well but keep you dry. I've used the pants in the winter over my jeans and it keeps the cold wind away when driving across the lake.
