Was up there Friday-Sunday. This has always been one of my favorite lakes to fish and I've been more times than I can count. This weekend was a huge bust! Never have seen this lake fish so slow. Caught a few dinks Friday evening with shallow cranks on the west side of the lake. Saturday morning caught a 2 pounder deep cranking in about 10ft of water on the east side of the lake, buddy caught a dink doing the same thing. Not sure what happened, but this trip and the last one (about a month ago) have just been extremely slow compared to normal. I tried everything I could.. Busting the bank with a crank/texas rig, jigs off deep drop offs and points, deep cranking and wacky rig on the hump, jigging deep brush piles, etc.. Lots of boats out there and most reported not even a bite! A handful of new people to the lake telling me they were dissapointed after hearing about how great of a lake it is.

Tried Athens for the first time Friday morning. Beautiful lake, not my type of fishing. Buddy caught one all day (7am-1pm) and it happened to be his PB. Caught it on a frog at about 12 o clock (got a pic on my phone, on my Mac right now.) But him and I both agreed it ain't worth the 3 1/2hr drive for us to return. Just not a big fan of fishing grass and that lake is FULL of it. It was worth the trip for my bud to catch his PB, but even he agreed that it'll be his last trip there. I'm sure it's awesome if you know how to fish it, but we obviously lacked that knowledge.

Anyway, "rant" over. Just a tough weekend of fishing. Was for sure fun nonethless! Just figured I'd return my report on HC this weekend and the Athens experience.

With that big a$$ full moon we had, I bet the fishing was tough everywhere. I've always liked HC, but also heard its fishing tough right now.

I had the same experience but several years ago. I used to frequent Houston County but as soon as they sprayed the grass, there was a steady decline in how well it fished (for me anyway). Last time I went was back in 2014, and I've heard it hasn't gotten much better since.

I fished Houston county on Saturday for a few hours. Caught two on a Carolina rig. Neither one of them were over two lbs. I caught them on a point in about 16 foot of water.

See I haven't brought myself to fishing Fayette in the summer.. It was miserable enough (as far as heat) on HC and Athens this weekend. I can't imagine that heat on a hot water lake

You should have been fishing at night. I've had more luck at night in Houston County during the summer. Bigger fish too.
