We went out at daylight today and fished until 12:00. By 12:00, the wind was so high water was coming over the front of my boat, so we gave it up.

We caught 25 with 5 slabs, one was 15" and 1.6#, 4 others close to that. Only had about 5 throwbacks, but if we had been loading the boat we would have thrown back some of the ones we kept. They were barely 10"

22-25 FOW down from about 12' to 18' on standing timber.

Two of the last three times out, the wind drove us off the lake. Today, there were a dozen boats out there in the same are we were at when the wind got up and we were the last ones to give it up.

We didn't try an protected areas because of the shallow water there. Might have worked fine, don't know.

Thanks for report. What did you catch them on? We were out there yesterday and had About the same report. Used all 1/4 oz jigs with various colors but the ones that worked the best were white & chartreuse and black & chartreuse. I do think that minnows would have helped because they were being finicky, lots of bites on the drop. Thanks again

Downsize your baits, anything over 1/8th is overkill this time of year and fish are keying in on Shad fry so small baits will put fish on the deck.

We were using 1/8 and 1/16 oz. jigs tipped with minnows and a #5 split shot about 12+ inches up the line to get the bait down faster. We used white and chartruese, pink and chartruese, solid white, didn't seem to matter all that much, but the jigs with no minnows slowed down the bite significantly both today and on Tuesday when we went out.

Full minnow mostly, but if we run low on minnows, we cut them up which seems to work just as well except when it doesn't.

If you drop your jig size down, and fish fast, you have no need for minnows. By fish fast I mean do not spend too much time on one spot. Most spots are pumping out A LOT of fish, but no bites in 5 minutes move on.

If you are not an experienced crappie fisherman or you have younger kids with you, take some minnows, Sometimes (actually my experience is, most times) it will increase the bite.

But use really small jigs during summer time heat.

We have been to LAVON 3 times in the last week.

We have probably caught 150 fish per trip.

Lots of shorts, lots of barely legal, some real nice ones, and a few Slabs that escaped from Fork.



No shortage of getting Thumped!

We gave all fish that we kept away to folks that were very thankful for the fillets.

ACC 12 Foot Rods.

No plastic.

No Minnows.

Timber, Brush, Underwater Stumps.

Caught Fish in as shallow as 14 Feet of water all the way to 25 Feet of water.

Caught fish as shallow as 12 Feet and as deep as 20 Feet.

Caught some fish full of eggs yet.

Best Bite was 15-18 Feet down for us.

My wife stocked my freezer up to the point I do not have room for my STACool cooling vest packs at the moment.

I'm hoping to make room and get those in the freezer because it's time to start using that vest every trip for me and Dad.

The difference the vest makes on the lake is a game changer.
