We've started a pretty cool project on Lake Fork focused on tracking the movements and behavior of Largemouth Bass over the course of 1 year. The main goal of this study is looking at movement patterns of fish as they go from below, to within the bottom end of the slot limit. As of last Friday, we have implanted 21 bass ranging from 14-21 inches with transmitters, within Birch Creek. These fish will be tracked a minimum of every two weeks for at least one year, to identify seasonal movement patterns and how they react to boat and motor noise, angling, etc. If you catch a fish with a small pink tag and/or a small metal wire exiting from the fish's abdomen, please contact District Biologist Jake Norman at 618-531-8123. All we need is the pink tag number (if present) and a location of where the fish was caught. All results of this study will be available to the public and should provide some interesting insight into movement patterns of largemouth on Fork. We'll have a video posted as soon as it is ready!
