You need to make 400+/trip to make any money. Striper, Catfish, Bowfishing, and no doubt Bass. It doesn't seem as much for the other guys to charge 150/head but they also have 4-5 guys fishing on their boat at once. Two guys Bass fishin have to cover that.

Still not a get rich quick scheme for the guides. Boat, truck, fuel, equipment......and everything left over is their FULL DAYS salary. Don’t want to start a post on “what do you get paid for a living”? but you can’t simply look at the cost of a guided trip as “what is it worth TO ME to pay someone to take me fishing”? You have to equate it to someone’s(the guides) full time salary. He is not getting rich off you. Now if his small salary is to much for you to pay for someone to take you fishing(not a fair value to you) simply DO NOT DO IT. Regardless of how good or bad fishing on the lake is, how famous the lake is, where the lake is....the price of a guided trip equates to someone(the guide) getting a full days salary out of taking you fishing. Just a perspective. m Well I might pay 500 to fish with Rick Clunn or KVD just to gain some knowledge. Otherwise no I wouldn’t pay 500 to fish.
I got all day I’m retired

I wouldn't be a guide for $1,000/day. I'm not sure about the guide's thoughts, but it would completely take the fun outta going fishing, IMO. I guess I'm showing my age. I don't even care to tourney fish anymore. It's just too much work and too much pre-fish. I don't have the time nor energy. I can go out nowadays and blank, and still smile all the way home. I just can't even imagine dealing with a couple of flatbilled perstaffers all day that think they know how to fish, and can barely throw a baitcaster. Guides earn every penny they receive, and let's hope there's a big ole' fat tip to go widdit!

Been with great guides that put me on huge fish all day. I've been on trips where I've caught 1 fish.
Here's what I learn from guides: Where to fish a lake at certain times of the year, where not to fish, what baits are tried and true on a lake and generally some good stories.
There are some great guides out there that work their [censored] off. There are others that I wouldn't pay half what they charge. It only takes one trip to decide which is which.
The best guide I ever had was Rogne Brown on Chick. That guy was the bass whisperer. He was amazing, put us on fish all day long and my thumb was raw at the end of the day and my belly was sore from laughing so much. He was a great guy and a better guide. If you haven't heard of him, he's the one that put up 41 lbs on Chick. Our best 5 that day was 33. Fun times.

I enjoy going with a guide a couple times a year. I know that I make over $500 a day on my job plus benfits and a guide has considerable overhead. all things considered a guide is quite reasonable. To each their own.

I know there are some on here that remember a couple things I'm about to list. In the early to mid 70's a top of the line boat was something like $4K and I bet a truck was similar. I know my dad bought a nice 4 year old Ranger in the late 70's with an 80 HP Mercury for $2,800. In the mid 80's boats and trucks were in low to maybe mid range of $11-15K. A very nice loaded Ranger with a 150 HP in 1985 was a bit over $14K . I still remember that because we were to cheap to pay that so we bought an off brand for $2K less.
I don't even want to say what a guide charged back then. I remember asking at a guides booth at the Dallas Boat Show. If this is bewildering take an older car into a car dealership to have it repaired and see what they come back with to fix everything they say is wrong. That will scare you more than most of this discussion.

It doesnt matter what it costs if its something you want to do,....if you have the money, and you want to go bass fishing with a guide by all means go fishing. Value is in the eyes of the beholder.

Agree with Jim. It is relative. If you want to book a trip book a trip. What is OK for some may not be for others.
I have a nephew whose judgement I had to question. He took his wife on a once in a lifetime trip to New Zealand. When they were there they went on an "all day helicopter trip". He showed us the pictures & short videos. It was with a guide and they were taken to some of the best views and places the public could not access. He did not tell me exactly what the day cost, but gave me a hint. It was what I paid for an entire week in Costa Rica at a 5 start hotel including airfare and food!! I was kinda speechless. For reference check on what it cost to charter a helicopter for ONE HOUR. The cost per hour matches the title of this thread!

It literally ran out of warranty may 17, I took it to look at having a sensor replaced last week. They found almost 2 grand worth of stuff needing to be fixed they said. The kicker was they told me my battery was bad and for thej to replace it would cost 260. Ha yall stupid I said.

Watch the car dealerships right now. The service depts are pushing suggestive sell to generate revenue. Took my son’s car for oil change at GV Ford on Tuesday and they said terrible corrosion on battery and had an excessive oil leak. I said get me the oil change and tire rotate and I’ll take care of the others. Brought it home, no leak whatsoever, and no oil on ground where car has been parked, whatsoever. There was a little corrosion on one of the terminals that we cleaned up in about 4 minutes. To diagnose I was quoted $200. Then the cost of fixing the issues woulda been no telling how much........ Sorry for hijacking!

Let me put it another way. You pay $500/month for 12 years for a boat. You have to put gas in that boat and truck, buy rods and reels, tackle and lord knows what else. I’d say if you fish at least once a week, that person is in for around $800-$1,000 a month. To fish 52 times a year.
Roughly about $10k annually. If I found a buddy to go in 1/2, we could fish 40 times a year with a guide for the same price as owning a boat. Here’s the best part, when I decide I don’t wanna go fishing it cost me zero. When I decide to sell all my stuff because fishing sucks, there’s nothing to sell because I use the guides provided gear for free. When I finally decide to sell my $10k a year boat that almost certainly has more owed on it than it’s worth, I don’t have to get on this site and weed through 40 offers for substantially less than what I listed it for.
$500 for 2 people to fish with a guide seems expensive, but from my perspective, it’s not unreasonable.
Now, who On here wants to buy a 2016 ZX225 for about $5k less than it’s worth! This guy gets it.
