Trying to find a new truck and have been looking at F-150's. I know a lot of you guys drive Fords so wanted to get some opinions on the V8 vs the V6 Turbo (and the 6-speed vs 10-speed transmission). Daily use will mostly consist of flying down the highway at 80+ mph with boat in tow.

Anything i should avoid during my search? Should i just buy another Chevy? Ram? All opinions welcome

Just bought a new F-150 with the larger turbo V-6 and 10 speed transmission. My previous 3 F-150's have all been V8's and I must say I am impressed with the V6. Torque is unbelievable with this truck and pulls my Skeeter ZX250 with no problem. A caveat however is I have not taken truck and boat on any long road trips.

for pulling stick with the 5.0, more mass spinning in the engine.

my 14 with the coyote is getting around 15.8 - 16 mpg and about 12 - 14 towing a champion 202, couldn't be happier.

researched both platforms and stuck with the v8 since I tow a lot, v6 has to work just that much harder to put out the same power and turbos are not cheap if they go out.

I run a superchips towing tune on the flaspaq, wild mode. truck runs like a scalded dog.

33's level kit and air overloads with compressor.

2015 with 3.5 Ecoboost and 6 speed. 120,000 miles. 21 mpg average all around driving. 10 to 11 mpg pulling a 22 Majek Extreme back and forth to Venice Louisiana last week. Plenty of power. It’s a beast for a 6 cylinder with the turbos. Issue is stopping since the Coastline Trailer doesn’t have any brakes. Good motor. Spent $1100 on it getting the throttle body replaced. For the last 4 Ford F-150 Supercrews I have owned I spent about a average of $350 a year on some kind of repair such as coil packs, AC Evaporator, etc. Kept them until about 180K miles and got a new one.

If you are going to pull a boat 80+ you probably won’t see 10mpg, probably closer to 9 or less. If I averaged 65 mph I could get 12 mpg.

If I got a new truck every three years I would take a long look at that 3.5 turbo. Its the only engine that can hang with a 6.2 Chevrolet. It also makes a lot of torque at low RPM's.

We have a '17 F150 FX4 Screw 3.5L TT w/10 speed transmission and 3.55 rear end.

My wife gets 21-22 daily driving it to work and we have gotten 25 on several trips.

We got 17 on a couple 5 hours trips pulling the Ranger which is a little lighter than the big glass boats.

I have a '14 F150 3.7L, 6 speed, 3.31 RCLB and I get 16-17 daily back and forth to work.

I have gotten 19 a few times on longer trips and I get 13-14 pulling the Ranger according to which lake we are going to.

Both the 3.5L EcoBoost or the 5.0L Coyote are great engines but with either of them just remember: Keep it out of the Sport Mode and don't turn off the Auto Start/Stop or your mileage will suffer. cheers

I have a twin turbo v14 with 3 sets of truck nutz. I can drive 143 MPH towing a 31 foot custom bass boat, and I get 7 MPG. But, if I remove the truck nutz, I get 46 MPG.

I have a 2018 with 5.0 and 10 speed. I love it. Almost 400 HP, 18-19 mpg in town, 23-24 on the road. Will pull anything I want and gets over 100 mph in quarter.

I think your speedometer is a little "happy". I can only get 139 MPH with the same setup. What pitch prop are ya runnin' anyhows?
