Looking for advice: I am a freshwater guy, but i am headed to galveston bay this week (shallow inshore boating). What types of freshwater lures that i already have might work in the saltwater bays? Poppers, lipless crank, spinnerbaits, jigs? Thanks for the help.

might try the shrimp type baits like the vudoo shrimp and the gulp shrimp. swimbaits rigged on the weedless belly weight screw on hooks will help from snagging the shell.

Topwater spook type baits. Rattle traps. Redfish will scarf on a spinner bait and a buzz bait. Paddle tail swim baits.

Silver or gold spoons. Also, the saltwater will rust most of the freshwater lures. Rinse them in freshwater after you use them. Also rinse reels.

Couple of tips for your tackle - first off don't put a used lure back into your tackle box with dry lures. Keep it separated until you can rinse in fresh water and let it dry. Second, if you are wading you need a waterproof box. Get one or two of the plano waterproof boxes, and put just enough tackle in there to re-tie your lure or do a quick change. Lastly, make sure you have pliers. Salty fish tend to be toothy critters with attitudes. Don't take your fancy SS fishing pliers though, as even a splash of saltwater will cause them to begin rusting in the joint. Either take aluminum, or go to the dollar store and buy something cheap and throw it away after your trip.

Spinners work fine just add a shad type plastic (redfish magic). Large rooster tails work great . Poppers will work too if the topwater bite gets cranking, I like swim baits myself. Like Osbornfishing said, rinse everything with freshwater if you want to keep it in good shape.

anything you can catch a bass on with will catch a trout or red.
As for the waterproof boxes.. ... we're putting wet lures back in them ... it all has to be rinsed anyway. Plus, the sealed waterproof boxes float and if you're wading chest deep for trout you don't want your box floating up around you.. it's a real pain and not helpful at all. While your wading.. nothing is going to rust.. if you don't rinse and dry immediately after wading they will rust. Many anglers only rinse but don't dump and dry their tackle.. and dry is key. Rinse it.. then find a way to dump the wade box out and let it all quickly dry in the sun ... won't take long. its the best way I've found to keep your gear good during a trip.
