Question. The guys start reeling as fast as they can when the fish hits and takes a couple of hundred yards of line in 20 seconds. For what purpose, doesn't make sense to reel while your getting spooled? What does it accomplish?

PS Tylor/Pinwheel just fought one for TWELVE HOURS, thank God they landed it. Started at sunset, and fought past sunrise, just him and his first mate! How awesome yet insane. Think it was the first fish landed during season 6 (watched quite a few of 'outer banks', watch about 4 hours per night).

otay, you need to come go on the tuna excursion in the fall, if it is still on.

Would make sense, that guys is waaaay out there. The season I just watched he cut one other boats lines, what a scumbag. Glad one episode they put a giant banana in his fish hold. Think it's in the 'outer bank' series I'm now watching. Season 2.

If the fish first starts by running you sometimes see them leaving that rod alone while they are trying to take in their other gear. When they first see a hit the line is not always tight and there may be 50 yards of slack in it. You see them reeling hard till the rod starts bending and the fish starts pulling line.

The way they do it is hard but in the gulf with much smaller fish we land them without using the rod holders. Its man vs fish and it does wear you out if you aren't prepared. I can get worn out by an 80 pounder and have no experience with those monsters.
