I tried to go to Calaveras Sunday afternoon. The line to get in stretched forever. After almost an hour I got to a spot where I could turn around and went home. I guess people are desperate for somewhere to go.

You have to admit, both lakes had a pretty good run for many, many years!
Both lakes need to be drained and start all over again!

Redfish. Definitely not my favorite lakes, but they’re both within 15-20 minutes of my house. I prefer to bass fish, but gave up on Calaveras. All I ever seem to catch when bass fishing there are reds and catfish. I guess the reds outcompeted the bass.

I fished Calaveras this morning and caught a few reds. Most were undersized, but one was 29 inches and went almost 11 lbs. The lake was packed. I got there just after 6am and there was already a line down Stuart road. It took me about 30 minutes to get in. I gave the big red to a couple that got there at 8- they said the wait was over an hour to get through the gate.

Do guys at Braunig catch by rgular boat trolling instead of downriggers? I know downrigger guys kill it all the time there.

I’ve seen guys having success with both.
I went back to Calaveras Sunday morning and fished in the rain. Caught some on frozen shrimp, but mostly on an underspin. Lost a huge one at the boat that I fought for 20 minutes. I just about had the net under it when it shook the underspin loose.
