Got up at 2 am to check the radar...looked like the rain event was just moving into La Grange...went back to bed but couldn't sleep...got up at 2:30 & decided to "chase" the storm from here in New Braunfels. For once I made the right decision. Got to the lake just before sunrise & was the ONLY car/boat in the parking lot. Thought I was dreaming. Launched & was the ONLY boat on the lake. Conditions: water temp mid 80s & lake a little above full pool. Light north wind & cloudy until around 10am. Partly cloudy & very comfortable all day.

Fished 9 different areas (super secret spots) and caught quality fish in all areas. This is the 1st time this year this has happened. Reed beds (Jamie), shallow structure, rip rap & tree areas all produced. The fish on the reed beds were holding real tight...if you were a foot out they wouldn't come and get it. Saw massive schools of shad in some areas. Ended up with 148 total (8 bass & 140 sunfish) One area was holding almost all red ear...don't see that very often. 3 of the bluegill were 10 inches long, and had numerous 8-9 inch fish. Fished from daylight to 5:00 pm. Used Gulp Alive minnows exclusively. Tried 4 colors & they all worked equally well. (Watermelon/pearl, Chartreuse/shad, Emerald/shiner, & smelt) Can't wait til next week ! [Linked Image]

Another "FANTASTIC" Fafyette post by the "Master of Fayette" ! Great job Vogey. Your time on Fayette is paying off "BIG TIME"! You have demonstrated the importance of putting time on the water in a very good way! Great job Sir! rockon

Side Note: Even though the Gulp Alive Minnows are the "go to bait for Fayette" have you ever used small spinning lures? noidea

Great trip! It's nice to have the lake to yourself, even if only for a while. It's so great to enjoy the quite, the beauty and of course the fish.

Curtis...I have not...About the only time I used small spinning lures was when the mayfly hatch was on at Dunlap. I have tried small lures like the Yazuri rattlin Vibe, but it's hard to try new stuff when they just keep bustin the minnows like they are starving to death ! You are 100% right...nothing replaces time on the water experimenting around...nothing !

Another fine Fayette Post. Great job Vogey! Got to agree with you guys. Time on the water is very important! Again great post and some great fish.

Side Note: Is Chartreuse the "Go to Color" on Fayette?

Bill...It is very rare to have that lake to yourself, so just enjoy it when it happens. I kind of thought I might run into you out there yesterday. There was still lots of fish where you caught em last week.

Gitter...I am totally convinced that the color does not matter. I seem to catch just as many on any color I put on. That being said, I prefer Chartreuse shad & watermelon pearl partyon

Good job Steve. Im all set for this Friday to take my grandson fishing for the first time. We were going last week but his Dad had a conflict and could not go. They want me to have them along the first few times that we go before they let me take him by himself. Don't blame the parents. Im more excited than I think my grandson is. I hope we get 3 or 4 hrs in so I don't ware him out. He turned 6 today and is excited to go. I don't plan on fishing but just helping him. I figure to get on the water about 7:30 then see where it goes from there. It sure is bringing back memories when I started taking my 36 year old son with me.

Tom, that is great! It's satisfying to know that the fishing tradition is continuing. We have to have the little ones or the sport dies. And knowing that you are a good fisherman that can take him to spots where he will catch fish assures success.

Thanks Psalty, Doc, Jamie & Chuck...No Rios yet. I did try fishing the submerged rocks some where they hang out, but no luck. I think they are more a Bait of Champions species than a Gulp Alive one.

Tom...Would love to see some pics of the grandson holding up some of those slabs ! Don't forget the camera (phone)...

I kind of thought that. I guess Bluegill do not have any particular color they like when they are biting good. Thanks Vogey!

Awesome day. I tried it yesterday and did terrible. I fished from 7-12 and caught 8 (1 in the 8-9 inch range) all off of 1 reed bed. I stayed on the west side of the lake from Park Prairie down to the discharge. I will have to try the west side when I can make it back out and hopefully I can get into a few more.
It is encouraging to see the posts of y'all catching them and know that with time on the water you can be successful.
