Got up early on Saturday to beat the crowds. Four of us went up river to fish below Guntersville Dam. Should have looked at the release schedule. 80k per second (10 gates) being released which made drifting for catfish impossible. We headed back downstream and decided to head up the Paint Rock River to look for cats. After a couple of hours and no luck, we ran back out to the Tennessee and anchored on the current seam where the Paint enters the Tennessee. In 10 minutes we had 10.8 lb flathead in the boat. The next 30 minutes, we missed several other bites. Had to call it quits due to the number of yachts throwing big wakes and pulling us off anchor. Hopefully the water release will come down as well as the yachts out cruising the river. At least until July 4th.

I really need to stop and take more pictures. If you haven't fished some of these big rivers, you are missing out on both great scenery and great fishing.

I love my new to me Lund, but I do miss my glass floors on my previous boat. That catfish slime is hard to get out of my carpet. I'm going to look at marine vinyl flooring this winter.

Nice memories there. I got to fish the Tennessee with Phil King a couple of years ago and dropped in just east of Corinth. That was fun fishing not to mention the education from being with him.

I'd love to be a river rat on a big river for a while!

I fished with Phil twice. First time we fished "catfish on the rocks" up in Pickwick Lake and then moved down below the dam several miles. Second trip we launched at Savannah and drifted the river over some humps. Every drift resulted in at least two big blues. He taught me plenty, and I go back almost every year to fish some more Tennessee River. I watched Phil stand waist deep in the water trying to revive a big blue during the Harden County Catfish Derby that he and Stacey caught. He tried for about an hour but wasn't successful. He and Stacey won that derby by over a hundred pounds. Can't find a finer fellow to fish with.

Keep one eye on the river and the other on the barges!

The pleasure boats can't compete with the barges. My anchors have large floats attached to the rope. If I see a barge coming, I'm prepared to cast off the anchors or risk sinking the boat. The same thing when you see a huge tree coming at you. The branches could become tangled in your rope and cause some major problems. It's been a learning curve going from Lewisville to a river system like the Tennessee.
