watched a special last night on spaceX, was pretty cool and informative too. landing the 1st stage on the barges still has me wondering how the heck?

It's about time the USA went back to space.
Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's an EMP!

Those guys are brave indeed since this is a first of its kind. Hope it goes well. Don't really see what it is accomplishing other than it is potential for private space travel.

Anyone know where to watch? Major network or streaming? The launch, when it happens, will be live streamed. Check here: SpaceX Launch Live Stream The launch is called DEMO-2 so make sure to click the link to watch the Demo 2 launch when you land on the SpaceX page.CNN and other networks will show updates but it's likely best to watch the SpaceX or NASA stream. SpaceX is currently showing their live stream to begin at 11:15 am central. Launch is currently scheduled for 3:33 pm Central. I hope it goes well but heavy weather is forecasted during the launch window today. Same for this weekend on the next two backup launch dates. I'll be turned in for sure. Godspeed~ Blue Moon

Just the way my brain thinks (or doesn't think as the case may be), but I have never understood why. I mean it is cool and all, but think about all of the $$ that were spent toward putting a man on the moon and I think to myself - What impact has that had? Again, I think it is cool, and the guys that have gone up there have certainly been impacted (I got to spend an evening visiting with Charlie Duke about walking on the moon), but I never got it. Too much of a concrete mind.

Once we become a multi-planet species our odds of extinction go down dramatically. 99% of the animals to ever walk this earth have gone extinct. Secondly the list of technologies that came out of NASA is a country mile long. Here's a good place to start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_spinoff_technologies

Here's a good place to start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_spinoff_technologiesGuess I'm not in to the multi-planet species thing. Spending a lot of time growing up in SW KS, NE NM, and SW CO made me think there is still a lot of room on this planet. I don't deny the great things that NASA has done - great inventions, processes, etc. And maybe those would never have happened without the idea of space travel (seems to me they would have, but maybe not). Plus - moon rocks themselves (density wise) are pretty cool.

A massive asteroid impact, nuclear war, global pandemic, super volcano, massive solar flare, near by super nova etc... So in my opinion it's good to be on multiple planets.

Too much of a concrete mind. That money isn't shot into space. There's hundreds and thousands of people employed by this process. There's not just the technological breakthroughs that come from answering questions like this, but military advantages (satellite photos of enemy countries just to name one), there's pushing boundaries of what we know, learning new things. Investing in space means we push the boundaries of what is possible and learn new things along the way.

I'll tune back in on Saturday. That live stream was WAY BETTER than network coverage.

Crew on board is a factor but another factor is the destination. Launching a satellite has more flexibility because it doesnt have a moving target it is aiming for, it's just going into orbit. This launch time was precisely calculated and planned based on the ISS orbit.

Is it just me, or do the suits look ridiculous? Yes it's just you. They are very futuristic along with the Falcon 9 rocket and the Crew Dragon spacecraft.

What a bunch of Karens. This rocket ship is going to hit speeds so fast the stars it flies by look like just streaks of light but a few clouds float by and they wimp out. Are they afraid the fire that shoots out the back of this thing will Just go out if it gets wet? It’s not a Roman candle, it’s a freaking rocket ship. What if it’s cloudy when they try to land, are they just going to fly around the world looking for places where they can see the ground from the window? I think they are just milking it so they can get better weekend ratings and the pictures will be able to be taken of it for higher than the first 2000 feet of fight? How about this, float up a hot air ballon with cameras on it so they can take pictures of the rocket ship as it bursts throw the tops of the clouds when it comes screaming by? I hate astronomy for this very reason. They always say you can see shooting stars at a certain time, but they are never there when you get up at 3:00 to go see them. I’m starting to believe we never went the moon. They had clouds back then to.

Is it just me, or do the suits look ridiculous? I think the suits look cool, modern and sleek and obviously functional, it's 2020 and the space program mirrors that, it's called the dragon now, dragons in space cannot be questioned, of course I'm not an old either

The inside of that crew capsule is pretty sweet, too. All nice and clean, without a bunch of exposed wires and hoses and junk. It all looks like something out of a movie. I dig the aesthetic of the whole deal.

I always wondered what audience Star Trek was catering to when Captain Kirk ended up shirtless in every episode. Now I know.

We gotta find the aliens before they find us... if they havent already! Now I can get behind that! Think Barrett is working on an intergalactic sniper rifle? Sign me up.
