Can I use a jack and a piece of wood under the keel to raise the front of the boat off the keel roller to replace? 20 foot fiberglass? Will the weight of the boat in one spot on top of the piece of wood be too heavy?

Why don't you just replace the roller when the boat is off the trailer? It doesn't take long to replace.

Most trailers are flexible enough that you can place a jack under the forward most crossmember that the bunk boards are attached to and lift it well above the roller. Hook it up to the truck to hold it down and it don't take much jacking to lift it off the roller. Another way is to span the trailer with some boards and get the jack right under the bow eye. It doesn't take much pressure to lift it this way, and it doesn't have to be hooked to the truck.

Will the weight of the boat in one spot on top of the piece of wood be too heavy? you can lift it that way, just be really sure your set solid with the jack location, cut a couple of pcs on a 45 and screw to the top of another pc of wood to keep it from slipping out too. like said, I would just launch the boat and do it then.

You can easily jack the boat off the trailer. I've done it and hung my boat from a frame with 2" straps while I worked on my trailer.
Place the jack under the transom for support.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Easiest way is to replace the roller at the lake with the boat in the water off the trailer.

I have a 21ft Nitro and I just used a jack, blocked rear wheels and it took less than 5 minutes, easy peasy.

Seriously, why would you risk damaging your boat, or someone for that matter, jacking the thing up. I've changed mine out several times. Launch it. Tie it up at the dock, and bring the two wrenches you will need to unscrew the bolt and locking nut. Switch it out, tighten and reload or go do some fishing. DO NOT LEAVE THE TRAILER ON THE RAMP. Pull it up and out of the way as a courtesy.

Why make it harder on you to change the roller? Doesn't make sense to me.
