I have it narrowed down to the Hobie PA 12 or Native Titan 12? What are the thoughts out there?

I have come to almost the same dilemma grin. Hobie PA 14 or a Titan 13.5? From every thing I've seen and read thus far, the PA 14 has just a slightly faster hull with less effort. But the Titan 13.5 can have a dual pole anchoring system on it. And certainly has a ton of room in the rear well area. I also like the fact that the seat can be slid back. On the other hand, I've never sat in the Hobie seat. But think it might give an edge in comfort with adjust-ability which is extremely important to me being I ain't got the best back in the world any more.

I had the same dilemma also. I went with the hobie instead. What sold me on the hobie was it has 4 rod holders instead of 2, front floor hatch in front of seat, dual rudder control, could get real shallow by just flatten out the flippers without removing it up, side net pouch, and lighter than native by a 5 lbs which it a lot if you dragging uphill : ). what I like about titan that is it's unsinkable (spray foam within body, why it's heavier), instant reverse or forward, and it turns tighter than hobie. I think u can add a trolling motor in rear also without modification.

Hobie started the pedal game. They have it perfected. Native, their company put out a letter specifically saying not to use scupper carts. Why not just make a product that can handle the cart options available? That gives me a ton of concern about the integrity of their hulls. Even if you dont use a scupper cart whos to say you wont simulate the same preasures while in use. That said i would never ever own a native kayak. Lots of them look great but i would never purchase a boat that limits how i use it based on the premis the hull could crack.

I would try both out before you buy. Nothing worse than buyers remorse!
Some shops let you rent, and using each one for a day fishing from it will tell you what you need to know.

Just one more cast!

+2 on taking both out for a demo. Take your poles and test them out in ways you plan on using them. The instant reverse with the Titan is what makes most buy them.. If you're looking at a 2020 Hobie has the reverse (came out in 2017) and Kick-Up fins. Yes you have to pull a cord with the Hobie to engage reverse. But there's give and take in all kayaks. To me a big deal is having steering handles on both sides since I usually have my rod is my left hand I tend to steer with my right hand.

I will say the Hobie is likely going to be easier to sale if it ever comes to that.

You get out of it what you put into it!

I bought a Slayer Propel in 2016. I think the build quality and fit/finish of the Hobie would be much better.

The metal in the Propel drive cracked and had to be replaced. Native replaced it for free because it was a somewhat common issue at the time. The new drive has worked great. However, I have to grease it after every use and that requires a special tool called a spammer wrench. If I don’t grease it, the metal on metal grinding noise is pronounced.

As far as the quality of the hull, I cut a length of 1” wooden dowel that I lock in place of the drive when not in use and I also put a piece of 2”x6” board across the hull where the seat sits when not in use and the seat is removed. Otherwise, the hull material expands and the drive and seat won’t fit easily. The wood is easy to remove when I fish but I want to be honest with you.

On the water, it’s soooo stable. Standing is a breeze and I rarely sit while fishing. Because of the bike pedal setup, you can stand and fish and, if you want to back off the bank or move a little further out, you can lean over and turn the pedals once or twice with your hands.

I have never regretted buying the Slayer and my opinion is that the Propel Drive was better than Hobie’s at that time for the type of fishing I do (clear water reservoirs with little/grass and weeds). Hobie had no instant reverse at the time.

Lake Ray Roberts Marina has a PA 12 that you can rent for the day.

It's a few years old, I don't think it has 180 fins... However, you can get a real life feel for stability and comfort by fishing an entire day out of it.

Hobie has a reversible drive now also. Its not instant reverse but damn near. I believe its called the Mirage 360 or something like that. I believe you have to move a selector lever on the left to switch between forward and reverse. Its also a lay down blade drive so less chance of snapping blades. Ive heard its pricy though.
