Been slinging a C-rig a bunch lately and the front of my right shoulder hurts and feels like there might be some fluid build up. Anyone else deal with it? What'd you do short of not slinging a rod. Lighter waits don't seem to bother it as much.

Go see your physician. From your description, it’s either rotator cuff issues or biceps tendinitis.
Rest and ice your shoulder
Switch arms with either a spinning set up or opposite hand retrieve baitcaster

When it hurts in the front of your shoulder and it hurts really badly to raise your arm above shoulder height, often it is the rotator cuff. I have had both shoulders repaired from rotator cuff tears. It doesn’t take much to tear one; in fact, many people don’t even know exactly what they did to tear theirs. Rest and Advil or Aleve for the injury is about all you can do for yourself. See a doctor if it isn’t better in a couple of weeks. The problem could be any number of muscles in that area. I hope you’re better soon.

Thanks I have a physical anyway 1st week in June so can ask then. If I cast underhand and just don't force it, it's not bad. Can always just catch some sand bass for a couple of weeks. Not bass, but still fishing.

Mine bothered me really bad for at least a full year and my elbow was inflammed for about 2 years. Did PT for about 3 monrths then kept doing the stretching exercies at home. I did not think it was working but lo and behold it got heaps better. Maybe not 100% but what ljust not that bad that I can’t live with it. Usually now zero pain when before it was major. I recommend the PT route but keep doing the exercises at home and it takes a few months to make a difference.

Look up rotator cuff stretches and see a deep tissue specialist. I do post rehab on shoulders all day and what your are describing is because of overactive muscles at this point unless there is a history of damage. Scaption and shoulder retraction exercises will help baclance it out.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

I developed shoulder issues last year. My pain radiated up through my collar bone and into my neck. I went to a specialist and they put cortisone in it in two places. It helped with the pain but didn't fix it. I did the PT like they said but the pain came back. I don't think I'll do the cortisone again.

sounds like torn/worn rotator cuff . I was diagnosed with with a 3/4 tear on my left shoulder . The Dr wanted to do surgery . Since I was coaching my sons youth baseball . I opted for 8 weeks of PT , twice a week . That was mid 90's . Never had any more issues with that shoulder and I ended up coaching baseball another 10 years , including throwing countless hours of batting practice and the pain never came back .
If you strengthen the muscles behind the shoulder/scapula area , it keeps the " socket " from moving so much and in my case , completely solved the problem .

[align:center][/align]Get a diagnosis and then work on muscles and posture as directed by a physical therapist. You don’t want shoulder surgery on your dominant shoulder. It will keep you from casting for some time.

I waited as long as possible to repair my right shoulder based on my doctor’s advice. A shoulder rarely heals properly and you’ll have to work through scare tissue issues for years.

Improper weight work (based on an assumption of a rotator cuff issue as opposed to a biceps tendon issue) may make it worse so get it looked at.

had similar situation twice and both times it was a statin (Lipitor, crestor type)drug I was taking....first time it was Baycol, can't recall the second time, may have been crestor, both times doctor switched me to different drug and pain went away after about a week....I'm told it's pretty common for statin drugs to cause this kind of pain in joints....

I would start by stretching. I used to have the same issue it used to kill me cranking a 6xd and C-rig.

Had pain so bad in both shoulders, I couldn't raise my arms above shoulder level. Xray and MRI's showed torn rotator cuff on one side and bursitis on both sides. Tried PT to no resolve. Now I get injections in each shoulder a couple times a year and don't have ANY pain. It's quite surprising how well it works. Doc says the injections will give less relief over time. Hope its a long time off.

The older I get the more everything hurts. I have started casting more sidearm, were the bait is not near as high in the air. This seems to really help.

Yea, Covid has taken a toll on the gym. Until then I was stronger at 60 than I was at 25. Both on bench and legs. But haven't done much the last 2 months so I'm sure that's some of it. Slinging a C-rig is certainly harder on the shoulder than a plastic too.
