The ‘x’ in 7x indicates no maps, for maps just get the Hook2, 7 (or other sizes).

Too bad I didn't figure that out until after I bought it and used it.

It did not occur to me that they'd make a GPS without maps.

That's a fish-finder, not a GPS.

Yes, this is confusing, and has been frustrating for many
Had to return one and got a Helix instead. Didn’t like the buttons on the hook series, or how the power and ducer cords plug into the unit.

I own 2, a Hook2 7 double scan and a Hook 2 7 triple scan, like them ok for the money, just hate the new plug in's on the triple scan. I have to use a pair of needle nose pliers to pop them out. Wonder what was wrong with the screw on plugs ?

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

Love the screw in plugs. More robust and reassuring. Easier to connect and disconnect also.
The screw in plugs look more expensive, but, the plug ins do take up less space (suppose they are easier to snake around the boat and are less obtrusive)
Much prefer to screw than to plug.

The buttons on the Hook units look and feel cheap. Much prefer the bulkier, stronger buttons on the older Elite units.

The picture quality, the screen clarity, pixels, and colors and processing speed on the Hook series are definitely an upgrade, though

mine is 2 yrs old, when it works its pretty good for the $$$$. The unit has a mind of its own, locks-up,turns off ,depth goes to 2.5ft when its actually20, turn unit on and no screen because brightness level is turned to zero automatically. try fixing that in the sunlight! I am on my 3rd tripleshot transducer, first 2 the 2D sonar stopped working would not mark fish just a blob of pixels. I'm going back to my old X18c !
