Going there for the next week. Wind might be up day or two. Taking a little bass tackle. Anyone ever caught them there? I figure you can catch them in the area of the marina. Any recommendations on general area?

Wind won’t be an issue as long as you avoid the big open area. Lots and lots of canals. Can’t help you on the fishing but stay safe when it comes to the tide. It’s really easy to get stuck in some areas if you don’t pay attention.

We go every year. Fish a lot of beach front stuff mostly looking for trout. It’s supposed to be pretty windy on Monday then decent the rest of the week Just thinking about a alternative if it’s really windy.
I know they catch them there. The BASS guys ran down there from New Orleans. Iaconelli won the New Orleans Classic out of Venice. The next time they had it the fog delays pretty much killed the Venice strategy.

I have a good friend who fished down there multiple times a year and the numbers on bass are always plentiful. Of course they won’t be in the same areas as the trout. But if you can find some places with a bit of fresh water you should have no trouble catching bass and even a few red fish. You may can get some help on the Louisiana page of BBC but most are pretty tight lip about bass. Better to ask about reds.

You should not have a problem, regardless of the wind. Leaving the Marina, turn right. fish the area they call the "wagon wheel" lots of canals and passes. Personally, I would try to find areas with a bit clearer water. the river water will push through the rosa cane and create some clear pockets, filtering the silt out. No doubt you will have some reds in the same areas that bass could be. Fish a few spots, if it doesnt work out move. There is plenty more good stuff right around the corner. That is a mind numbing place of great fishey looking areas. The river flow does funny stuff down there, I caught a bass last year on the outside edge of the rosa cane, with ocean swells washing from the back. Crazy place, I love Venice!!!
