So I go to fish a small lake in a city park. I drive 30 minutes to get there, closed, I call an audible and head to grapevine. First lot I get to completely full. En route to the next spot my kayaks shifts and snaps a rod tip. I finally get somewhere I can fish. I had 45 minutes till dark and unsurprisingly got skunked. But hey getting out on the kayak is always nice.

Yep, I did that last Friday. I got to Katie Woods ~8:30AM. It was packed. Big boats and jet skis everywhere. Water came over the front of the yak twice. It was irritating. I live in Bedford and checked out Elm Fork below the dam, Westlake Park, White Rock Lake and Marine Creek this morning. I am going to try Marine Creek. No powered boats or jet skis and protected from the wind. Do you have any suggestions?

Marine creek is good but just so you know there is boats allowed there. Fish shallow early then move deeper as the day gets warm. Top water works well early morning as sun is coming up.

Marine creek is idle only for boats, which makes it nice for kayaks (although not all boats abide by that rule). Hard lake to fish, but drop shot works well. As said above, It’s not great if all you do is beat the bank. Need to fish deeper.

I feel your pain, got my kayak last year and have only been on it 6 times now. Have caught a few fish but it’s been slim pickings.

Wind and rain have cut my number of outings down this year.
I found when got my kayak, it opened up many opportunities and changed where and how I fished.
I decided to focus on a few locations and learn a lot about them.
Get out on the water a lot and try different lures/baits to see what is working.
Also ask questions and search through the forum history on the spots you fish for ideas.
I also switched focus to enjoying being out on the water with catching fish as a bonus.
Not that I do not try hard to catch fish and I do enjoy catching them but if I do not can still enjoy the day.
There will be those days that everything seems to go wrong. Learn you lessons and look forward to the next time.
Catching fish will come.
