I looked at a lot of used kayaks before realizing everybody wanted way to much for them and most were junk or did not fit my needs.

Academy and Walmart both offer entry level kayaks around 200 or less, and that’s the route I went for my first one. It’s a 10’ lifetime kayak with fishing rod holders and a nice folding fabric seat that I grabbed for $200 new around a holiday sale. It’s been solid so far.

At some point, something lager and more stable that I can stand on to fish would be nice when I scrape up the funds to do so.

For a beginner, there are a good bit of choices under $250 new, they aren’t the best kayaks ever but should serve you well while you get started, and looking at how much people want for used ones, you could probably get all your money back out of it when you go to sell it lol.

I have a pelican i bought brand new for 250 and have had it for 4 years a s it never touched the water. We won a boat in a tournament and i just never used it after that, im trying to sell it right now with a paddle which is a very nice paddle with carbon fiber handle, anchor and life jacket. I sell you all of it for the price i paid for kayak itself at 250. If youre interested shoot me a text or call 940 367 1425.

I hope you find something to use and hopefully you heed the best advice you will ever get on wearing a PFD! cheers

With your attitude I seriously doubt you will heed anyone's advice. rolleyes

Typical princess response. No one was being a snob, condescending, or disrespectful, except you.

This one would probably suite you perfectly.

like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

On top of that, the initial responses he received provided advice that, if heeded, would give him a much better idea of whether or not kayaking is for him.

I’m all for trying a budget kayak to see if it’s for you before dumping thousands of dollars into it, but don’t just go buy the first and cheapest kayak you can find, because you’ll probably end up hating it without doing at least basic research.

The funny thing is, many of us on this forum have spare kayaks he couldve tried just as a fishing buddy kinda thing. I know personally i am happy to take others out, put them on good fish and help them start the journey correctly. I know many of us are that way and is one of the things that makes kayak fishing so special. This guy, no way.

Yep. The kayak community is extremely welcoming and generous.
