I am fairly experienced with these species of fish...I get the basics search for depth changes...look for bird activity. But I am having some trouble finding and catching these guys on Benbrook. I have found a nice hump on the east side of the lake near Richardson slough that goes from 13-14 feet into 31 feet in short order. I have found a couple schools near the pump house too...but have had real trouble finding and staying on them. I would greatly appreciate any advice? Thanks in advance!

Been a long time since I fished Benbrook, but the hump on west end of dam in the mouth of the cove is a good spot. Also try the east side ridges/points. Not a big lake, good topo map and electronics will sort you out.

Good luck! Fished that lake for years and never could pattern them. One day kill them, next day same conditions everything and could buy a bite with a $100 bill.

Years ago it was one of the best hybrid lakes in the state. Currently, massive lake level changes have made it hit and miss. Last time is was there I fished most of the day and ended up with a few small white bass, baby channel catfish, yellow bass, and a few drum. Try 20 to 25 feet. That is where I have been finding the lately.

Ive had luck on benbrook my last couple of trips. In the morning ive been on the west side in front of holiday park were the old R/C airplane field used to be.
the flats there are at 20ft. I start where it begins to drop off and nudge the spot lock every now and then till i get to 30' then move over a bit and start over

Thanks all...the pattern here is so tough used to fish Joe pool all the time and recently got another boat and live 2 minutes from Benbrook now. Joe pool was always so consistent for sandies and Benbrook is so hit and miss.

Everytime I go there I’m hunting largemouths and end up with white bass biting. They really like sexy Shad crankbaits for me around 15-25 feet deep. Once I get my new trolling motor I plan to setup a little better. I think my old trolling motor had me drifting away from my marks to fast as I didn’t have spot lock. Try north east side In the afternoons they’re always stacked up over there.

Went out today from 5pm to a little after 8pm...still having trouble getting these guys to bite. Can find fish stacked up in 30-35 feet...but can't get a bite. Talked to another fella who caught em' in the aerators by the pump house in 10-15' of water. Was able to save 3 guys after dark that had capsized their canoe with help from a tarrant county sheriff...it was a beautiful evening to be on the water my son and I enjoyed our trip. We'll be back at it soon and we will eventually nail these dudes.

Forgot to mention, Rock creek has an old road bed submerged 5-10ft when lake is full, right now on googke maps it shows it out if water. We use to catch sandbass there consistently spring-summer on Rapala shad raps, whites would stack up on the north side of road bed and around where the bridge use to be. Good crappie in the creek too, if you hit the spawn right.

Just wanted to give a report that I was finally able to find some fish today in the northeast corner by the dam fishing in 45-50 feet but caught them about 10-15 feet down. My son and I didn't exactly slay them but we did catch a solid 10 or so in just 3 hours during the heat of the day 2pm-530pm. Not bad and hopefully I will continue to pattern these suckers better. Thank you to all that have provided tips! I will continue to do the same...and by the way all fish caught on live fathead minnows 😁

Do those aerators not draw the shad with the sandies right behind?

Just another report for today 05/31...hit the water by 6am and went to the same spot in the Northeast corner of the dam. Didn't catch or see much this am there...went on to troll the front of the dam in 20-32 feet of water dragging a ultra deep KVD sexy shad crankbait. Got a good hit and handed it to the kiddo...fish got some slack line and popped loose. Then tried to do some largemouth fishing to no avail. Then moved back to the same spot near the pump house and was able to land several yellow bass...no whites and no hybrids today...water was 76 degrees and a mostly sunny sky. The yellows were caught on minnows in 10-15 feet down in 50 feet of water. Still haven't seen much schooling action 😢...maybe later this week as the water continues to warm. Good luck to all...and if anyome else is finding the schooling fish please let me know.
