Fished the afternoon of 5/17 thru the morning of 5/19. Three of us fishing in the boat, had probably 15 fish on Sunday, with the biggest being 5-7, 22". Monday fishing was sparatic but good; probably 40 fish total for the day, with a 5-4, 22.75" big. We found a school of little guys feeding on small baitfish around a grass patch, and probably caught a dozen 1 pounders out of that. Tuesday morning was tough. Tried fishing in several good looking spots, and ended up with maybe 10 fish all under 2 pounds. Very little wind on Monday and Tuesday.

We caught them on worms, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, rattltraps, spooks, buzzbaits, grubs, and frogs. Both big fish came on frogs, with several smaller fish as well. We found a ton of grass in the coves to the north. Most of the fish we caught were in areas that had occasional cypress trees off the bank, pondweed, submerged grass and flickering baitfish. Boat was usually in 8-10'. We did catch a couple on a point in 20'. Water temps were 75-80 degrees, winds were light after Sunday, water ranged from stained to clear.

I've only fished Rayburn a few times, but this was a fun trip. I put in a good bit of effort beforehand to try to learn the lake some, and we found some fish.

Never fished Rayburn but have a desire too. I like small lakes so I'm pretty sure I'd just fell lost on a lake like Sam Rayburn or Toledo Ben!

Paparon, it is a big lake for sure. But there's a lot of info out there on YT and here as well that I found really helpful. The whole place looks super fishy, so you always feel like there's one waiting for you in every cove.

Pick just a small area and concentrate on it. Couple of recommendations:

Veach Basin ... So big it can take a guy a while to learn it.

Harvey Creek up to Hwy 147 bridge

5 Fingers and Coleman

Buck Bay

The Canyons and and Tree Stand area.

Not so intimidating this way. Do some homework with maps and on line videos.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.
